Meetup #5:The Agile Team Facilitation Stance:Taking Your Teams to the Next Level

Hello Agilists!

Happy New Year! I hope you had a nice break. We are planning to hold meetup #4: The Agile Team Facilitation Stance: Taking your teams to the next level on January 27, 2013 at 6pm.

The Agile Team Facilitation Stance: Taking Your Teams to the Next Level

Collaboration is a core value in agile teams – most every agile practice requires some level of collaboration within or between teams. Over time team dysfunctions can emerge that reduce the team’s ability to collaborate effectively. Facilitation is a core skill for Agile Coaches - your teams need Facilitators who can facilitate agile practices, foster effective collaboration, support meaningful dialogues and enable team decision making.

In this interactive session we’ll explore the stance and skills of an Agile Team Facilitator and
learn techniques for facilitating agile teams. Come prepared with your own experiences and questions - ready to share and learn from others.

Presented by Marsha Acker

Hi everyone! I really enjoyed being with you all in January! Time flies - it feels like that was just last week! Several people asked about when the next public facilitation class was going to be. Just wanted to let you know it will be May 28-30 in Gaithersburg MD if you're interested! Details can be found here:

I liked the size of this meetup. It was enjoyable to interact with everyone and hear Marsha speak about facilitation. To improve, I would have loved name tags and/or intros in the beginning :-). Also, I think it would be awesome to share some additional information on where to learn more about the art of facilitation. I'll just share that I have found the following books extremely helpful.

That is a link to my Evernote page of Facilitation books. If you have trouble accessing it, let me know. I would be happy to share some other way.

Marsha Acker's presentation kickstarted my thinking on how I can better serve as a facilitator on my scrum team.

Great meeting you all last night. Edris and I have a whole new respect and understanding for the scope of work you deal with day to day. Thank you for broadening our minds and also as noted yesterday, we are open to assisting you on your job search in any way and open to informing you of any new agile projects or opportunities. I know I listed a few roles we are hiring for yesterday, but we particularly got new roles today and have 2-3 Agile BA roles, 1 Traditional Scrum Master role (technically java based), 1 Agile Java Developer role & 2-4 Agile UI Developers for one of our most valued and reputable clients in MD. If anybody is interested in hearing more, please email me at [masked] and attach your resume! Otherwise, I appreciate if you could spread the word to your peers!

Participating hands-on in Marsha Acker's session on Facilitation was eye-opening. Years ago I increased my personal ability to effectively lead a meeting tremendously from one training session. Marsha's session was that kind of value. As we worked through different aspects of facilitation it was a door to realizing the deeper levels of skills used to effectively pull an intense, passionate, intelligent group of people into combining energy toward a single goal. Oh, and without starting a brawl. :) This is valuable just as much for a manager or an individual contributor as it is for a facilitator. We all need to be able to bring out the best in the people around us.
Thank you to Santeon Group for hosting and providing excellent pizza.

Marsha Acker shared her wisdom with the group by getting folks immediately involved, walking us through the topic in a very literal fashion. Refreshing insights by participants makes listening to this notable group really fun and inspiring.
