Are you a Woman or Man working in Tech? Want to give back? Join us!

What got you so excited about science and math as a child that you ended up working in a tech field?

Everyone's experience is different. Maybe you read a lot of science books and loved Nat Geo or the Nature Channel. Maybe one or both parents were scientists or engineers so you've always been exposed. Or maybe you just looked up in the sky one day and decided that you wanted to be an astronaut and fly among the stars.

The ultimate purpose of this group (and the nonprofit I am starting) is to engage girls ages 4-8 enough to get them to consider science and technology fields/careers as options and goals.

You would do us a great service if you could share your story with us and potentially put it up on YouTube so your enthusiasm can rub off on the girls and boys we hope to serve with our nonprofit.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Sorry, I can't attend the meetups in person (I live in the DC-area), but will do my best to support this meetup from afar.

I was so happy to come across this meetup group. We need the power of stories to open new worlds of possibilities to young women -- and to let young men know that women are very much a part of the future of tech.

A children's story I've written with a strong maker mom character can be found at http://www.his.com/~pshapiro/ordinary.mother.html A narrated, animated version of this story can be found at

Will change the headline for this event to include both men and women, an obvious and stupid oversight on my part.

The only requirement for this or any other of our meetups is that you care about getting more girls involved in the science and tech categories that they aren't currently in now, and keeping them in the ones that they are!
