May Brunch Meet-up at Flow From The Garden

* May meet-up will be over Saturday brunch at 'Flow From The Garden' restaurant. This is a new restaurant that serves farm-to-table entrees

*This location can hold 25-28 attendees. Please update RSVP if unable to attend

*This is a private event for Albany vegetarian group

* Menu changes weekly and will not be known until the event. For menu of this week, visit the website www.flowfromthegarden.com

* All items will be vegan and gluten-free

* Multi-item tasting brunch for fixed price of $20 per person, all inclusive (tips included)

*Owner of the restaurant, Allan Von Schenkel has been vegetarian for 20 years

    Brunch was a very enjoyable and interesting experience. All of the food was very fresh and tasty and had excellent presentation. We were introduced to several wines, including one from India and another two from Sardinia. Staff was very courteous and accommodating. I felt a little bad though as they were prepared for 25 people and there were only 11 of us. However, it was a nice day so he opened the door and about 6-8 walk ins were able to be served in addition to our group.

      Sid, those of us who did go paid extra (my son and I covered an extra person's cost) to try to make up for the difference in attendance for Alan and the staff, who really put on a great event for us. Yesterday we were discussing the possibility of making events of this type prepaid (you can use Paypal for this) - that way there's less chance of folks just deciding to blow it off because it's a beautiful day (or whatever). I belong to a bunch of Meetup groups and many of them do events this way so they have a more realistic idea of who's going to show up. We all said we wouldn't mind pre-paying if that had been how the event was set up. My family, like Uli, will return to From the Garden for a wine class as well :) Very nice event.

    I wrote a comment on Saturday, but I don't see it. Basically, I said the same as Karen Schlitz - great food, fun time, PayPal payment should be required in advance. I also paid for an extra person.

    I spoke with the owner during and after the wonderful breakfast and told him that they should make it more obvious that this restaurant accommodates vegans. I have visited the website on many occasions in the past and been disappointed that there was nothing on the menu for vegans. There is nothing on their website that indicates that they accomodate vegans. They always feature local meat and dairy weekly. There was a question here on the page about what people would be getting for the wonderful brunch yesterday, but that was not able to be answered because they use fresh local ingredients and don't know ahead exactly what they will have beforehand.

      Karen, You are not being held responsible for the light attendance and I apologize if my comment suggested that. This is not the only event where there were dropouts - every event in the past has had drop outs, often without notice. However, my comment was written with the intention that if the organizers are ensuring that the dietary requirements are accommodated, the attendees do not attempt to undermine their effort. I hope this clarifies the intent of the comment and understand that you are not being blamed for anything. On a lighter note, more comments have been exchanged on this event than most events of this group :).

      thanks, Sid, still feel very bad about the whole thing. Very sad today, although I had a wonderful time yesterday morning. I do think that pre-payment will make the difference, as it has for meetup groups some of my friends have run in the past and do currently. Very deep regrets.

    This page is being periodically monitored. The issue is that people RSVP and decline at the last moment - this happens for every event. This affects the restaurants that prepare food for a larger crowd as well as damages the credibility of the organizers.

      Yes, I will be traveling this weekend but I am glad you can still attend. We had a full event and had to close the RSVPs. Over the last two days, 10 people declined to attend that changed the situation. I hope to see you at a future event.
