Sunday is supposed to be mostly sunny, so it should be a good day to hike Chimney Mountain, which is near Indian Lake in the Adirondacks. It is only a 760 vertical foot, 1 mile hike up to the summit, where there is a view in every direction. For more info., see http://www.summitpost.org/chimney-mt/197323 .
While we could get there in 2 hours by taking the Northway, I thought
it would be nicer to take a more scenic route, i.e. Rt 30, and see a
waterfall or two along the way, adding ~20 minutes more driving time.
The waterfalls should have good flow with all this rain we have been
So, I would like to leave Albany (Woodlake) at 9 am, and arrive at
Christine Falls around 10:30 and have a vegan potluck brunch there.
(While you can swim below the falls, you might find it is too cold
this time of year!) I recommend bringing a collapsible camping chair.
After that we can take a look at Whisky Brook Falls, since we will
pass by it as we drive up to Chimney Mountain.
We should get back to Albany by ~5pm. (If that is not early enough,
we could consider starting earlier or otherwise modifying the plan.)
We will meet in front of building #1. (Park in any uncovered space.)
If anyone wants to carpool from a location along the way, let me know.
