Let's go to the circus! PROTEST!

Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey Circus.

There are eight shows over four days, May 2 - 5th.

I will be there Saturday from 1:00 - 3:00.  (I'm hoping to catch the 11:00 people when they leave and the 3:00 people when they get there.)

I will also try to be there Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00.

I will have professionally made posters and leaflets.  I will also bring markers and poster board so protesters can make their own signs.

You may organize according to your plans and go to any show that is convenient for you and your group.  The important thing is that we show up to inform people.  Peacefully!  Please no yelling or swearing.  I know it's difficult, but we won't persuade anybody that way.  Plus the cops will probably boot us out for harrassing people, so it's really important to stay calm.  And if they are the ones yelling at us, just respond with, "I'm sorry that you don't care about the animals." and walk away.

They are as follows:

Thu, 05/01/14   07:00 PM

Fri, 05/02/14   10:30 AM

Fri, 05/02/14   07:00 PM

Sat, 05/03/14   11:00 AM

Sat, 05/03/14   03:00 PM

Sat, 05/03/14   07:00 PM

We could put informative flyers on all the cars in the "Event Parking" parking lots around the TU center, including the Ringling trucks!

Do not have time. Have to do a long run to get ready for the Vegan Power ultra, among many other things. But perhaps I will drop by during my run.

I ordered 500 leaflets and two posters from Peta. I need to have the posters laminated on cardboard. Does anybody know of a place in Albany that can do that?

    Hi,

Myself and possibly my wife will go at least once. I have a small handheld sign I got years ago from PETA I can bring. Is there any coordination with any animal rights groups? I'd be glad to kick in some money for flyers and signs. Let me know.

Let's get together the week before and make signs, posters, flyers and more! We could meet at the Honest Weight Food Coop Community Room, when available.

Learning from my time in Occupy Albany, the media spins whatever it wants to (dirty hippies?? I own three houses and have a MS! But, the media had another story to tell). The circus is one of the most barbaric forms of entertainment of this "wonderful" society. I would like to help in disrupting it in any way possible!

I can be there to protest Thursday night and Saturday for 11:00. It is pure insanity that this still exists.

I wonder if there is anything we could do to protest the circus even coming to Albany at all? Like totally stopping it. Any thoughts?

    February 16, 2014

    • Judy

I think it's probably a big money-maker for the city of Albany, so it would be like fighting City Hall to stop it. But Sandi had a good idea above.

As long as a gig doesn't come in I'll be there!

    February 14, 2014

  • Larry R.

As of right now, I have no conflicts, so I'll plan on being there! But if a gig comes in I'll have to bail. I will definitely make everyone aware if that happens! Let's make a big impact!

Vegetarians shouldn't patronize the circus because of their cruelty to the working animals.

    February 13, 2014

Is this meetup meant as a protest? If so, count me in. The animals in circuses endure conditions similar to factory farmed animals - cramped quarters, chains, prods and other devices to force them into trucks, cages, performing "tricks" unnatural to them, deplorable living conditions, unfamiliar environments and much more. Elephants roam hundreds of miles a day in their natural habitat, yet they are contained in cages in the circus. The same for tigers and other animals "used and abused" in circuses worldwide. "Misery comes to town: It's not entertainment when non-human animals are deprived of their freedom and forced to perform in the circus ring. Boycott all circuses featuring animal acts. Let's stop applauding confinement, abusive training and exploitation of the animals featured in "the Saddest Show on Earth." FriendsOfAnimals.org
