October Meetup: Babbit

Note: RSVPs open at 7pm on the Monday after our previous meetup.

For our October meetup, we are reading "Babbit" by Sinclair Lewis. It was first published in 1922, and that means is that it's available for free in eBook format! Yay!

The blurb on GoodReads is:

Prosperous and socially prominent, George Babbitt appears to have everything a man could wish. But when a personal crisis forces the middle-aged real estate agent to reexamine his life, Babbitt mounts a rebellion that jeopardizes everything he values. Widely considered Sinclair Lewis' greatest novel, this satire of the American social landscape created a sensation upon its 1922 publication. Babbitt's name became an instant and enduring synonym for middle-class complacency, and his story remains an ever-relevant tale of an individual caught in the machinery of modern life.

So sorry I missed this - I didn't see the updated availability until just now. Hope it was a good discussion!

I apologize for the late notice, but I am not able to attend tomorrow. Feeling "under the weather" and don't want to wait till the last minute to cancel. I'd rather someone waiting is able to go. See you next month.

I read Babbit but made other plans when I was so far down on the waiting list. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with Babbit. Like H.L. Mencken, I much preferred Sinclair Lewis' Main Street.

    See you all next time,

    Sigrid

I just got off the waiting list but I cannot attend. Again I will be out of town unexpectedly. I will try once again for November.
