Hey Everyone!!!
We all know about the attractions to in the western part of our National Mall - the Lincoln Memorial, the war memorials, the Washington Monument, etc. This walk will take us in opposite direction (and way from the tourists) towards the US Capitol and sites nearby.
We'll meetup, start, and finish at the top of the escalators outside the Smithsonian Metro on the Mall. First, we'll head towards the Capitol Reflecting Pool and then run up the steps of the US Capitol (I feel a Rocky Balboa moment coming on, [to Adrian] "I wanna kiss ya. You don't have to kiss me back if ya don't wanna. I wanna kiss you."). Then we'll veer south and visit the U.S. Botanic Garden (admission to all public areas is FREE). Next on our itinerary is The Spirit of Justice Park (hopefully there won't be a protest going on) and then we'll change directions and head north and visit the US Supreme Court on our way to Union Station. We'll collectively decide at the time to have lunch at Union Station or not (umm, btw...they have a pretty nice food court and I'm always hungry). Our return route takes us pass the Taft Memorial and The Sculpture Garden and its adjacent fountain (please don't forget to bring your bathing suit if you plan on swimming).
The whole walk is about 3 miles (I think?) and should take about 2 hours or so. As always, it's a good idea to bring water and comfortable walking shoes. If you are lost, late, confused, have questions, or just want to say hello, please feel free to call me at [masked].
See you there.
Albert
