Hey Super Troopers!!!
Because it's Spring in the Shenandoah and because this trail was requested by one of my favorite Super Troopers!
This 4-hour (5.5 miles of smiles) strenuous loop hike begins as a very gradual ascent along the Keyser Run gorge. After about a mile the real fun and adventure begins, as we'll start climbing up the “stairs” along the steep cliffs of the gorge. The climb has about a 1000-feet elevation gain and at times will require you to use your hands for balance and to pull yourself up (rock scrambling baby!!!). We'll see a few waterfalls along the way. Please note, we'll have to cross a few streams as well, so be prepared to get your feet wet! Trail Map
At about mile 2, the climb will begin to level off as the trail moves away from the gorge to intersect with Keyser Run Fire Road. Before beginning our decent along this road, we'll break for lunch and jokes here.
The rest of the hike is basically a (relatively boring) walk in the woods along the fire road. Well, not boring if you find someone pleasing in personality (charming) and appearance (good-looking) to chat with, such as yours truly...no shameless self-promotion intended.
And now for my favorite disclaimer: We care about you and don't want you to get hurt or get yourself into any trouble in the gorge, but it's ultimately up to you to keep yourself safe on any hike/walk. You can do this by knowing your limits, so make sure you are physically able to do this hike. If you have doubts about your physical abilities, you might want to try our one of our less strenuous walks/hikes. Don't underestimate the challenge of this hike, as if you do, it's going to kick your ass!!!--That being said, I hope you're up for the challenge as I will see you through.
Where to meet and driving: We'll meet at at 9am at the Vienna Metro Station - North parking garage (first level), which is along the Orange Line and I-66 for carpooling and direction purposes. From here, we'll head west towards the mountains (75 miles, 90 minutes).
What to bring: yourself, plenty of water, a bag lunch, a granola bar or two, and cool sunglasses! As always, if you have any questions, going to be late, or just want to say hello, my number is (301) 712- 5880.
Hope you'll come to the dance!
