Hey Super Troopers!!! Happy Thanksgiving...I hope you have a lot to be thankful for. I know I do. I'm thankful for: my boyish good looks, my romantic heart, my big muscles...I can go on, but modesty prevents me from doing so. To honor all the turkeys who sacrificed themselves so we could spend the day enjoying family, watching football, and feasting like there's no tomorrow - we'll be going back to Turkey Run Park for a 2-hour, calorie-burning hike along the Potomac Heritage Trail.
Turkey Run The Potomac Heritage Trail straddles the Virginia side of the Potomac River and parallels the GW Parkway. We'll begin our 2.5-mile hike at Turkey Run Park, hike south, and then turn around. The trail is fairly level and is easy-to-moderate. There are several steep sections at the very start of the hike plus another at half-way point. So, it'll be tough and to borrow a quote from my fearless little 7-year old nephew, Colby, who loves to pick on me every Thanksgiving: "I'm going to kick your @ss." - and yes, he scares me...I hope he's nice to me this year.
Potomac Heritage Trail Meetup Point: Turkey Run Park parking lot C-1. It's located in McLean, VA on the George Washington Memorial Parkway between Chain Bridge Road and I-495 and is accessible from both sides of the Parkway. Follow the signs on the Parkway to Turkey Run Park and park in the lot marked C-1. It's near my former employer - I was the James Bond-type of spy. I really miss saving the world, all the while drinking martinis, driving fast cars, and romancing beautiful girls. What to bring: yourself, water, comfy shoes, and cool sunglasses. As always, if need a ride, going to late, have questions, or just want to say hello, my number is (301) 712-5880. see you there, albert
