Hate to let a beautiful holiday slip by without getting in a walk. If you have no morning plans, let’s meet at Wakefield Park and take a walk around Lake Accotink!
The route: From Wakefield Park, we’ll walk south along the Cross County Trail to Lake Accotink Trail, where we’ll walk all the way around Lake Accotink and return.
The walk is 5.4 miles of smiles and should take about 2 hours. The surface is mostly flat and a mix of dirt and gravel.
Where to meet: We'll meet in the first parking lot to the left in Wakefield Park after passing the maintenance area, GPS =[masked],-77.224928.
How to get there: The Wakefield Park entrance is at the intersection of Braddock Road and West Braddock/Queensbury Roads. (GPS =[masked],-77.224638.) From I-495, take Exit 54A (Braddock Road) west for one quarter mile to the park entrance on the right. After entering the park, it’s the first parking lot to the left after the entrance to the maintenance area. (It’s surrounded by baseball diamonds.)
What to bring: Water, comfy shoes, and your furry friend if desired. This is a kids-free zone, no one under 18 please.
Administrative stuff: There are restrooms and drinking fountains in the small building (Wakefield Nature Classroom) at the meetup point parking lot. There are also facilities at Lake Accotink.
After the walk: There are a couple of likely places in Ravensworth Shopping Center if anyone would like a bite afterwards.
