Long Branch Trail

A couple of weeks ago we had a pleasant walk along Accotink Creek, following it downstream from Wakefield Park to walk around Lake Accotink. Let’s return to the area for a walk in the woods along one of Accotink’s tributaries, the Long Branch. Maybe we can spot one of these little fellas...

The route: From Canterbury Woods Park, we’ll walk northwest along the Long Branch Trail through Long Branch and Rutherford Parks to Olley Lane and return.

The walk is about 4.6 miles of smiles, so we should be finished in just under 2 hours, including breaks. The surface is level and fine gravel with a few sections of pavement and footbridges.

How to get there: From I-495, take Exit 54A (Braddock Road) west for almost a mile to the light at Wakefield Chapel Road. (It’s the first light west of the entrance to Wakefield Park.) Turn right (north) onto Wakefield Chapel Road; the park entrance is immediately on your left.

What to bring: Water, comfy shoes, and your furry friend if desired. This is a kids-free zone, no one under 18 please.

Administrative stuff: There are no facilities at Canterbury Woods Park, but there are restrooms and drinking fountains at nearby Wakefield Nature Classroom, Wakefield Park, 8100 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003, GPS =[masked],[masked] . There are also porta-johns and drinking fountains at Rutherford Park along our route.

This was an excellent walk about 5 miles shaded by towering trees and along a little brook. Definitely a 5 star Meetups. Thank you to our guide and other walkers.

Yes, the "Saturdayites" plan sounds about right! I love it. Not necessarily this Saturday...just remember the rest of us who can't make Sunday events at all (especially mornings) when you make great plans. Sadly we're missing all the fun.

    Hey folks,
Looks like a beautiful day tomorrow, partly sunny and a high of 86. There's a 50% chance of showers after noon, but we'll be wrapped up before then. There's a couple places nearby if anyone wants to grab a bite after. (Kilroys was great last time we visited.) Give me a call if you need anything; my cell number is 7O3-924-O845.
See you at Canterbury Woods Park!

So once we enter the Wakefield Park entrance is that where we will be meeting? I am a newbie and just want to be sure.

No. The meetup location is Canterbury Woods Park - it's on Wakefield Chapel Road, the next traffic light west on Braddock Road from Wakefield Park/Queensbury Ave.
