Hey Super Troopers!!!
Welcome to Fall 2012! This is my favorite hiking season as there's nothing quite like the colors of autumn...I suppose, it's the New Englander in me. We got some great walks/hikes in mind for you, not to mention an upcoming camping trip that promises to be the best camping trip ever! Nothing is set in stone, so feel free to suggest where you'd like to go! I can't make promises, but we'll try...
I never made promises lightly...and there are some that I've broken...but I swear in the days still left...we'll walk in fields of gold...we'll walk in fields of gold... - Sting rocks!!!
Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area is 800-acres of gently sloping open meadows, mature hardwood forests along steep slopes, floodplains, ponds, and babbling brooks. This diverse habitat is home to Bambi, Thumper, and Flower, in addition to foxes, raccoons, hawks, eagles, and over 100 resident and migratory birds and waterfowl, plus a few horses! Meadowood Recreation Area
Meadowood offers 10 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails. These trails pass through the wide variety of terrain mentioned above. We'll trek most of them, starting on the east side of the park and head westward. We'll then hike the 4.7-mile South Branch Loop. This loop is a great mountain biker-friendly trail for the freewheelers amongst us! Trail Map
This out-and-back (with a loop) hike will be our usual 2 hours (5.5 miles of smiles). Most of the trails are rated moderate, but nothing we can't handle with ease and relish!
How to get there: From I-95, exit 163. Take a Left onto Lorton Rd. at the end of exit ramp. Go under second overpass and turn right onto Lorton Market St. Go 0.8 miles to traffic light at Route 1. Go straight through light (road name changes to Gunston Rd) and go 0.7 mile and turn right on Old Colchester Road. Turn right onto Harley Road. Mustang Parking lot will be on your immediate right.
What to bring: yourself, water, comfy hiking shoes, and cool sunglasses! I'm not sure if dogs are allowed. Please remember this is a kid-free zone, no one under 18 please. If you have questions, are lost, or just want to say hello, my number is [masked]-5880.
Hope you'll come to the dance!
