Announcing a new Meetup for Alexandria Walking Group! What
: Little Bennet Regional ParkWhen
: Sunday, September 5,[masked]:00 AMWhere
: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
Will hike thru some wooded trails and up a few moderate hills providing scenic forest and river views. This moderate level hike is perfect for those wishing to do something a bit more strenuous than the typical urban walk.
As stated on the county web site:
"Little Bennett Regional Park is the largest natural gem of Montgomery County. Throughout its 3,700 acres, you will find over 20 miles of trails leading you to and through quality forests, meadows, and streams. This vast park is home to many historic sites, as well as an abundance of native plants and animals."
There will be an optional after hike meal (at your own expense), if there is interest.
Hike mileage (approximately):
Hike Pace (Speed):
We will try to maintain a moderate pace of 2.5 mph
+/- 200 feet
There are a few small rolling hills and climbs; nothing too bad
No dogs or people under 21 years old.
Hiking boots (for both support and due to the muddy trails)
I have limited E-Mail (Internet) access before this event; will attempt to respond
We will meet at the Hyattstown Mill parking lot off Frederick Rd.
Take Rt 270 to Exit 18 in Montgomery County Md
Take Exit 18 East to Frederick Rd (Rt 355) North (Left Turn)
As you enter the (very) small village of Hyattstown you will see a small parking lot for Little Bennet Regional Park on your Right Side (Don't blink as you might miss it)
Arrive at the meeting location prior to the stated time as I plan on a VERY PROMPT departure. Please budget sufficient time to arrive early.
There is no official car pool location, you can organize your own via the comments page.
RSVP and No-show Policies:
RSVP YES: Only if you have a real intention of showing up. YES is not MAYBE. Please be respectful of others who actually wish to attend. I request that each participant RSVP's him/her-self.
I will cancel a hike in the event of bad weather (e.g. thunderstorms actually occurring in the hike area) or hazardous trail conditions (such as ice on the trail). Whenever possible, I will send a cancellation notice prior to hike time. If this is not possible (or the hazard is not apparent until we are at the trail head), we will decide at the trail head, as a group, whether to hike or not.
