Second Thursday of the Month Euchre

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MONTH THE EUCHRE
GAME IS AT BOB'S HOUSE.
SEE HIS ADDRESS ABOVE.

This is our regularly scheduled social euchre night. We usually start play around 7:15 pm and wrap up at 9:45 pm. I hold these at my house, which is metro accessible and has plenty of street parking when there isn't snow. For those new or haven't been in awhile, here is some basic information about our meetup:

1. If you are new to the game and don't know the rules, please do not sign-up on the website. Email me to let me know that you want to learn to play. We count on having 4 people who can play the game at a table. We absolutely love teaching the game, but we will go through the game, have you watch, and then coach you through. This means that I can't be at another table.

2. We have a number of casual games going on all night. We also play stick the dealer (ask if you don't know this variation).

3. We alternate every month on bringing food to keep it manageable. For this month, we are ordering PIZZA... just bring $5 and it will cover the cost of the Pizza and the monthly donation. Everyone brings a beverage that they want to share.

4. Euchre is a 4 person game--yes, I know there are 3 person variations, but most people prefer the 4 person game. What this means is that if you sign-up, we are counting on you to be there. If this month is like the previous months, we will have a wait list. Please be considerate and make your final decision as soon as possible. The deadline for RSVP is 2 days prior to the meet-up. Please update by that time, especially if you are going to cancel your RSVP. This allows me some time to try and fill out the tables. Of course, I understand that you may get sick on the day. We are happy to have you stay home if you get sick. Otherwise, come play. A good evening of food, drink, cards, and friendship may be all that you need to be more productive the next day. Thanks!!

5. If you have never been, we are a friendly group and welcome everyone to come. Very few people come with a friend or spouse. What this means is that it will not be awkward to arrive alone. It is better than a happy hour because it is easy to make conversation about cards. You don't have to even ask the dreaded "what do you do?" question. If you come three times, you are a regular.

6. Yes, the meetups are at someone's house. Please do remember that people live there and want to have a nice place to live. We always appreciate people helping to restore order at the end of the night.

6. There are some costs associated with meetup--I have to pay Meetup every 6 months for listing on their website. They don't work off of advertising fees. We pass the bowl around and ask people to throw a $1 in each time they come (see above Pizza paragraph).

Thanks to Bob for opening his home and getting the Pizza all sorted. Thanks to Kathleen for getting the cake. Thanks to all of you for giving me the $5 for the pizza (and yes, we covered the cost since most of you were asking me). And thanks to those that brought toys for the toy drive. I tried to walk around and say "thank you" to anyone that would listen but this is just as good :) Happy Holidays Everyone and we will see you in January for the normal Euchre night as well as the tournament !!

OOPS, forgot to include in the email :
For those that didn't come to the Holiday Party but still want to contribute a toy to the "Fund for Alexandria's Child" and "Community Partners for Children" you can just bring it to this meetup. Cash is also accepted if you prefer to not shop and remember that all the donations are tax deductible. This is not a requirement, but folks have been asking so if you want I'll take care of delivering them to the charities.

    Hey Everyone,

Please note the location change for this month, the December 13th meetup is now at BOB'S house (2556 Nicky Lane, Alexandria, VA). We will still order Pizza so nobody has to worry about bringing food, just bring $5 for the pizza and whatever you want to drink (and of course I'll have the Gary bar there). We will order both veggie and regular pizza. I'll be bringing this month's birthday cake (I know of 3 birthdays so far).

Mary Lou and I are bringing extra tables and chairs ... not sure if we need more than that but if someone can let me know.

Here's general answers to comments and emails:
    1. No one has to buy toys, but if you want to and can't make the Holiday party, please feel free to bring them to this meetup. Gary and I are both helping with distribution. Again, no pressure....
    2. No one has to bring snacks this month. We should have plenty of pizza. I will have soda, wine, and some beer. Gary will likely bring his bar.
    3. When I mentioned $5 this month, it is to cover enough pizza for approximately 3 slices per person.
    4. I am planning to have a selection of pizzas: cheese, peperoni and sausage, black olives and mushrooms, green peppers and onions. This should cover just about everyone. I try to accommodate as best as I can. Let me know if I can reasonably accommodate a special need. It will be Papa Johns because I have a coupon for a discount.
    5. Please don't be a no-show. When I am getting ready to leave the office, I will take the number of people signed-up multiply it by 3 and then divide by 6

this will tell me how many pizzas to order. Please be considerate and either show up (unless you are sick--none of us want to be ill) or update your RSVP. It may not some like a big deal, but I don't need a house full of pizza.

Pizza, it is. I will be ordering a number of pizzas. There will be beer, wine, and soft drinks. I am assuming that Gary will be bringing his bar....

Would people be opened to not contributing a dollar this month and throwing in a few more ($5 total) for pizza? Please weigh in. It might save all the hassle of the season. Also, please post (or send me an email) if your birthday is in December and you want to celebrate!
