Susan G Komen Race for the Cure

We will participate in a 5k (3.1 mile) route around DC to raise awareness/money for breast cancer on 11-May 2013. There is also an optional 1-mile route. Participants can choose to either run or walk. The individual registration fee per participant is $45 for runners and $40 for walkers. The fee includes the cost of mailing the official race t-shirt, bib and timing chip (for those running). Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Survivors receive a complimentary pink cap and pink t-shirt in their event kit. They are also welcome to go to the Survivor Tent where light refreshments are served.

The Project Chair will set up a team online. The deadline for registering is Friday 10-May. Once the team is set up, individuals can register to participate in the race. When registration is complete people can start raising money. Donations can be made online for the team by having people who wish to donate, click on Donate To A Team and search for the team name. Race participants are also allowed to make personal donations, which count toward total amount of money raised. Donations can be solicited in various ways and there are several tips on the Komen website as well as sample emails people can send out to solicit donations. Participants do not have to raise funds, however, money raised is what goes into breast cancer research, not race registration fees.

On the event day, Marshall Love will meet everyone at 7:15AM at Federal Triangle Metro Station upon arrival in DC. Everyone will then walk over to the designated starting lines together. Upon completion of the race, people are free to go their separate ways. We highly recommend that everyone take Metro and have your cell phones, in case you get separated. You should wear weather appropriate clothing (this is a rain or shine event) and comfortable shoes. And please bring plenty of water.

Please register for the event at: http://globalrace.info-komen.org/site/PageServer?pagename=HQ_GR_Homepage. When you register, please join the team for the Alexandria Jaycees
