San Juan Trail - Lower Parking Area (map)
Hey guys, let's do SJT again. Everyone had such a blast last time!
Please arrive early and be ready to roll by 7:30am sharp, so we beat the heat and hopefully most of the other riders who will undoubtedly also be enjoying the trail that day.
The ride starts with a long, but mostly gradual, climb with lots of switchbacks to a place called Cocktail Rock. Once we get there, we'll take an upper loop and then enjoy a sweet downhill the same way we came up. This ride is considered intermediate due mainly to the long climb (and a bit of moderately technical stuff here and there, as well). No beginners on this one.
Elevation Gain: 3260'
Distance:18 miles
Ride Time: ~3-4 hours
Rider Level Required: Intermediate
Be sure to bring your USFS Adventure Pass for parking, lots of water, snacks, all the spare parts and tools you may need, and armor (optional).
The directions to the trail
Take Ortega Highway 12 miles (not 8-10) until you come to the Ranger / Fire Station (there's also a sign to a campground at the turn). Follow that road about 1 mile to parking lot and bathroom at trailhead.
