Slow pace to the film famous Rock Pool

Ah, the joys of nature.  This is going to be a lazy Sunday hike to the Rock Pool, slow pace, taking our time, taking photos and pointing out things along the way.

Many of you have been on hikes where the leader is GONE ahead of the group, and you feel like you're playing catch up, running faster than you ate a bad tomato.  This is NOT that type of hike... and the tomato picking event was Labor Day!! lol.  We are going to take breaks and stops, both to photo and to point things out along the way.

Level: It's a fire road pretty much the first part in.  The beginning quarter mile or so has a little incline once we start the Grassland Trail, then about 200 feet of slight decline, followed by about a mile or so of flat terrain.  Once at the area close to the rock pool, there is a smaller trail we will take, then some (maybe 15-20 feet) of walking between and around some small boulders about knee high.  Total distance is about 2 miles to get in.

Bring:

  • Sun protection, hat, sunglasses, etc.
  • WATER, and lots of it.
  • A swimming suit if you want to take a dip in the rock pool, and a towel.
  • A snack, late lunch, something to munch on.
  • Your cameras to take photos if you want.

Parking:  Park on Mulholland, WEST of Las Virgenes if you can.  Pay attention to the parking signs, and please do not leave anything visible in your car that someone would want to steal.

Meet: ON the South West corner of Las Virgenes and Mulholland from 3:45 -4pm.  We leave RIGHT AT 4:00 PM... so be on time!

The Plan:  Walk/hike to the Rock Pool, maybe hit the museum on the way if it's open, hang out at the Rock Pool, take a swim, have lunch & a snack, and really just bum around for at least an hour by the water.  The event is officially over when we hit the Rock Pool.

Q & A section:

Q. Dogs?

A. NO.  And no matter what anyone tells you, the area/s we're hiking through does NOT allow dogs.

Q. Is the water cold?

A. Let's just say that if you're a Seinfeld fan, you will have "shrinkage."

Q. Can you hold my stuff while I hike?

A. YES, but only if it's a sandwich.  I'll put it in my stomach for safe keeping.  Not sure you'll get it back though.

Q. I'm a power walker, looking for a cardio workout.  Is this the hike for me?

A. You can lead us right into poison ivy then!  lol.  j/k.  NO, this is a SLOW hike, and we are taking our time.  There really isn't any poison ivy on the road/trail we're taking by the way.

Q. Can we hike over to other areas of the park too?

A. The event ends officially when we hit the Rock Pool.  What you do after is up to you, and of your own accord.
