Details for Thurs 12/12 Presence Gathering
My address is 9512 Pin Oak Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20910 Street parking is easily available. Please come around back, and remove shoes inside. Please make yourself a name tag.  Suggested donation $5. This event is from 6-8pm. It's okay if you need to come late or only stay for a portion. We'll be having a potluck dinner. If your'e not able to bring something it's okay, Please come and share your presence. We'll have dinner around 7:15. If anyone's child wants to eat earlier, we'll have the dishes set up on the table and you can help yourself. Do you have inspirational poetry or music to share? Do you sing? Or can you lead us in singing or chanting? Please think about any inspiring activity we can do together. Here is our agenda:  5 min - Sitting in stillness. -30 min - Listening to Eckhart DVD -5 min - Sitting in stillness. -20-30 min - Group activity/fun (It could be one or more of the following: some yoga and stretching while listening to music, sharing of inspiring poetry, listening to inspiring music, sharing anything else you want to share with the group). - Sharing meal together with presence. vandana

This group is for practicing presence in a group on a regular basis. Lifelong friendships may be a beautiful byproduct. Inspired by the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, author of Power of Now, and other teachers who create space. Being present is the most wonderful, healing, and powerful way we can be. Practice really helps. All are welcome to our gatherings.

What happens in a gathering? We'll sit for a while in stillness, followed by listening to Eckhart Tolle or the like. Afterward, we'll quietly be present for a while more, before sharing a healthy potluck meal, and cleaning up afterward, again continuing to be present while enjoying each other's presence.

People are welcome to do some light yoga/stretching, or we can do something as a group if there is interest. If someone wants to share some poetry or sing a song, they are welcome to. Whatever we do, we'll do with presence.

Who can attend? Couples, singles, families, young, old, near, far, everyone is welcome. If there are little ones, their sounds will be part of our practice. Some of us adults can also watch the kids in a separate space if they'd like to play. Nothing is fixed, we'll figure it out. This gathering is flexible and accommodating to everyone's needs.

Where and when will the gatherings be? Our group will meet weekly, alternating between weeknight at the Civic Center, 6-7:15, followed by potluck dinner, and weekend morning at someone's home, 11-12:15, followed by potluck lunch.

The Civic Center is in downtown Silver Spring at Veteran's Plaza. Weekend will likely be at someone's home.

When are the gatherings for December?

Thurs, Dec 12, 6-8pm

Saturday Dec 21, 10-12pm,

Thursday Dec 26, 6-8(day after Christmas)

Any cost?  Donations will be accepted to cover rental at Civic Center.

Why the potluck? This gives us another chance to be present to each other, get to know each other, and enjoy each other's company. If you're not able to bring something it's okay. Your presence is a gift. It's also nice to leave having eaten a healthy meal, especially if you have little ones who have to go to bed or nap. But this group's enjoyment is not limited to potlucks. Sometimes we can go out to eat, watch a film together at the AFI, and in warmer weather have a picnic. Your suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for posting this Randy. Dear All, I will likely not secure space at Civic Center until January. First meeting will be at my home which is close by. Please email me at [masked] with "being present" in subject to get address and other important info. Thanks.
