Many of us understand the issues related to pesticides on foods. Pesticides may benefit both growers and consumers by reducing costs of production. But are the benefits really worth the savings? What about the harmful side effects?
Currently the California Department of Pesticide Regulation is considering approving a specific pesticide, methyl iodide, for use on strawberries. I understand that 90% of our strawberries come from California. I have also read that this pesticide is used to stimulate cancer in the laboratory! I don't know about you, but that sounds rather scary to me. I like strawberries. Why lace them with a known carcinogen?
