We have a very diverse and S...P...R...E...A...D out group! As such, it is difficult to find both a location, and a topic that draws enough interest for everyone to attend.
Understand that I live in Clear Lake, and there are members in Katy, Sugarland and even Montgomery County. That is a large area! Kind of a bummer to have such a great group and not be able to share our knowledge very easily...
With that in mind, I had an idea. If we could find out the areas where everyone lives, then possibly we could coordinate localized group meetings that fit the interests of the people in that area. The rest of the group would be invited, but if they couldn't make it, at least there would be interested people to come to the meeting without driving 60 miles to get there. Possibly the same topics could be taken to different locations at different times to allow everyone to have access to an interesting topic without packing a picnic lunch to get there!
I have found a way to post a map of the locations of the individuals in our group, without the whole world being able to view it. At minimum, I need zip codes for everyone, along with your Meetup ID and/or a first name. If you want to share additional info, like an email address, phone or other information, I can include that also. I will keep the map updated, and it will only be available via email request to me. The email will contain a link to a secure site where this map will appear.
If you are interested in at least posting your name on a map, so we can see approximately where you live, then at least send me your zip code
and Meetup ID
(a first name would be great if not obvious from your ID). I will then post this information and send a link to those who participate. If we like this idea, and it is useful, we can get more detailed information from everyone to include later, if interested. But I think a zip code listing is a great start. I hope to get this basic listing from all members!
If you have other thoughts, please let me know. I want to make our group more functional. I'm kind of thinking out loud here, but hopefully you get the idea...
