Many people are looking for an alternative to today's churches. They have grown tired of the talk-show type rhetoric that spills from many pulpits. As millions flock to church buildings each Sunday, millions of others remain broken, poor, hungry, abused and the church is not serving its true purpose.
The Alternative Church was created for those who are looking to serve God and others by following Jesus's greatest commandments: "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Matthew 22:37-40.
Based on the scripture Matthew 22:37-40 the AC has a two-fold mission:
1. To learn the word of God and apply it to life - Jesus said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments". John 14:15
2. To serve others - Then the king will say to those at his right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it you did it to me.” Matthew 25:31-40.
A few FAQs
Is there a pastor or leader of The Alternative Church?
No. The AC is organized by Anthony and Monique Boea. Married for 11 years, Anthony and Monique live in the city of Decatur with one son.
When does the church meet?
1rst and 3rd Sunday - Bible Study
2nd and 4th Sunday - Service Day. Members serve at a local charity.
Do your members tithe?
No. We do not collect tithes. We believe that members should give according to 2 Corinthians 9: “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.’" 2 Corinthians 9:6-9
Do you only do bible study and service day?
No, we have a men and woman's marriage ministry that assists married couples in strengthening their marriages by applying the word of God to their lives. We also encourage the church community to gather for social and recreational purposes as well as a focus on health and fitness as we individually care for our bodies which is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
How do I become a member of The Alternative Church and what are the requirements?
If you have made a commitment to Christ and to live by the word of God then you can become a member of the AC. Although not required, it is recommended that members regularly attend bible study and service day.
