The capital future begins now
Ecolocitizen has invited you to the event 'Film: The Garden' on EcolocityDC!
Folks interested in urban agriculture and appropriate use of public land should see this.

Film: The Garden Time: May 15, 2009 from 7:15pm to 10pm
Location: E Street Cinema
Organized By: Washington Gardener Magazine

Event Description:
The Garden is an engaging and powerful look at the famous political and social battle over the largest community garden in the U.S., located in south central Los Angeles. A follow-up to filmmaker Scott Hamilton Kennedy's award-winning documentary, OT: Our Town, the film shows how the politics of power and greed (backroom deals, land developing, green politics, money) tragically intersect with working class families who rely on this communal garden for their livelihood. Equal parts "The Wire" and Harlan County, USA, the film exposes the fault lines in American society and raises crucial and challenging questions about liberty, equality and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable among us. Includes appearances by Danny Glover, Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, Daryl Hannah, Dennis Kucinich, Zak de la Rocha, Antonio Villaraigosa, Maxine Waters and John Quigley. Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature. Official Web Site

~ Katie Rehwaldt, Program Director, Seeds That Grow Hope, America the Beautiful Fund and Co-Coordinator, Rooting DC
~ Bea Trickett, Co-coordinator of the Neighborhood Farm Initiative and Rooting DC Urban Gardening Forum
~ Vinnie Bevivino, Farm Manager of the Master Peace Community Farm in Riverdale, Maryland

Bring your questions, concerns, issues etc. If the talk gets really interesting, we will move it out to the theater lobby and then maybe on to a nearby watering hole.
