Dear Athena,

Is there some web site describing Cobb houses?  I am completely unfamiliar with them.

Glad you have had good results from it.   The Rocket Mass Heater is totally different, more like a fireplace, but more efficient, cleaner burning and less expensive all around.    I am building a Rocket baking/cooking oven outside on my patio with Cobb on the outside of it this week.
The Cobb houses have lasted hundreds of years in Europe and other countries also.
Probably will build a Cobb guest house and then tear down my original house if I don't find a buyer this winter.

Dear Athena et al,

Yes, the radiant barrier is good--I consider it the primary reason I haven't had to turn
on my gas heating this winter, so far.   In previous winters, I could hit a gas bill of over $200/month
when it got really cold out.  I also have an electric heater purchased mail order (to heat just one
room) that uses radiant ceramic heating coils.  Have hardly turned it on either.

I know nothing about the Rocket Stove and Rocket Mass Heater.   I will check out the web site,
but they probably duplicate in some ways the electric heater I already have and haven't needed
much this winter, so far.

Raidient barrier is good, but it costs more and I don't have an attic.  The Rocket Stove and Rocket Mass Heater is efficient and smokeless, and costs under $50 to build it.   It's online on the Permies.com site.   Athena

Dear Athena and others on Alternative Energy page:

I had a radiant barrier installed in my attic (about two or so months ago).  Prior to that
I had dual pane windows installed on the south side of my house.   Since the radiant barrier
was installed in the attic, this winter, I have yet to turn on my heat.  I haven't had to.  When the
temperature is 50 degrees outside, it's a toasty, warm 70-72 degrees inside my home.  I'm looking
forward this winter to very low gas bills for heating!   Southwest Gas is going to "freak out" when
they look at what they're billing me.   It's going to be interesting to see at what point of cold outside
temps, I will eventually have turn on my central gas heating. In past winters, I would have normally
had to turn on my gas heating already.  Not this winter.

Anyone interested in learning more about radiant barriers, air conditioner duct sealing, etc.,
please feel free to email me, and I can refer you to the firm that did this work for me.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about Rocket Mass Heaters.

I am replying this way because I want the word out that I am looking for one really brainy person who knows about Rocket Mass Heaters or at least can help me follow the directions and do it my self!   Please help, my house will be cold soon and I know this method works and is cheap to build and to use!   Spread he word please.   Athena
