? --? Tom Hahn, RA/LEED; Ecosa Institute

Tom Hahn, of Ecosa Design and the Ecosa Institute, will share his
experiences and perspectives on materials and energy efficient strategies for desert
buildings. His presentation will include a series of projects that have been
specifically designed for the desert, using a wide range of environmental design
strategies and a variety of alternative building systems and materials ranging from
straw-bale to all-foam. Tom's talk will include a variety of building types and
applications from a school building to a residence to a trailhead facility,
with unbiased comparisons and contrasts of the design strategies, building
systems and materials used.

Recognizing there is no single ideal material nor strategy, Tom's
presentation will include the exploration of the strengths and weaknesses of a range
of desgn strategies and materials, with the goal that this understanding
will lead to appropriate use and actions that will optimize the choices people
make in their desert buildings.

An open discussion and question and answer period will follow the presentation.

This is a free meeting sponsored by The AZ Solar Center and endorsed by The AZ Solar Center, AriSEIA, ASEA, the Phoenix Alternative Energy Meetup, and the Scottsdale Green Building Program. We hope to see you there.
