What we’re about
At Library AF, we want to meet adult readers where they are now! Whether that be in our local libraries, out in the community, or from the comfort of home (👋🏻 virtual programs! 👋🏻).
For the young adult readers (and those still young at heart), join us for monthly book group discussions, lively pop culture banter, and other enjoyable non-traditional programs.

Forever Young Adult is a community for YA fans who are a little less Y, and a bit more A.
I'm calling an audible and switching it up this month! We will be doing a Reader's Choice Challenge where *you* get to pick the book. Find anything within the YA genre and book group members will have the opportunity to talk about their selected title at the next meeting.
Questions that I will be asking:
- Title + Author
- The reason you picked this one up
- A 60-second synopsis (no spoilers!)
- What type of reader would you recommend this book to (people who like character-driven stories, lovers of a good rom-com, science fiction/fantasy fans, etc.)?
Happy reading! 📚🥰☀️
- Book Group: Creature (Walk Around Midtown)Sacramento Central Library, Sacramento, CA
Join us for the annual Walk Around Midtown meetup for our book group. This month, our theme is public art and the featured title is Creature: Paintings, Drawings, and Reflections by Shaun Tan.
We still start and end the meetup at the Central Library (828 I St). Please wear comfortable footwear and clothing you can easily move around in. A majority of this program will take place outdoors, so bring anything you need to feel comfortable (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, etc.).
"From the creator of The Arrival, a collection of essays illuminating his thoughts and advice for writers and artists, young and old.
Shaun Tan is one of the world’s most highly acclaimed narrative artists—his stories and images are loved by countless young and not-so-young readers around the world. Drawing upon 25 years as a picture book and comics creator, painter, and film-maker, Creature explores the central obsession of this visionary artist, from casual doodles to studied oil-paintings.
Beyond sketches for acclaimed works such as The Arrival, The Lost Thing, and Tales From Outer Suburbia, this volume collects together for the first time unseen and stand-alone illustrations, each resonant with unwritten tales of their own. Detailed commentary by the artist offers an entertaining insight into the endless allure of imaginary, non-human beings and what they might tell us about our so-called “normal” human selves.
Artists, writers, students, dreamers, and anyone interested in the deeper undercurrents of creativity, myth, and visual metaphor will find inspiration in these pages."

Forever Young Adult is a community for YA fans who are a little less Y, and a bit more A. The selection for May is Skyward by Brandon Sanderson. Enjoy!
"Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible—assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul."
