London 4th of July Picnic, BBQ!!
New Venue! THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED!

It's the expat American community's 7th annual 4th of July Picnic, BBQ!

This years annual 4th of July, American Independence Day, is our 7th year running the event so we've upped the ante; This years event includes upscale and affordable BBQ available from La Gondola, which is a parks cafe with a difference.

La Gondola Cafe offers amazing BBQ and fantastic freshmade Italian fare, brick oven pizza, salads and freshmade desserts, watermellon and real gelato! There is a fully stocked bar with mixed drinks as well as beer and wine. Espresso as well as soft drinks, smoothies bottled water and Italian brand soda pop are also available.

This is very much a family as well as adult event and while we will be based at La Gondola Cafe people can feel free to come and go as they please and enjoy some of the parks other facilities, as well as clean toilet facilities at LGC.

La Gondola Cafe has a large outdoor table area is right by an idyllic, tree lined lake which has paddle boats available for rent (no food from outside may be consumed at the tabled areas). Bring the swim suits for the kids; there is a separate wading pool/ sprinklers for all ages (not the lake!), there is also a kids zoo open from 10am-5pm!

2:00 start (Til 10:30PM!), (The park remains specially open just for us!). Please be certain to bring bottled water, as it's going to be a heatwave! Plus the 4th actual falls on a Saturday!

The Pump House Art Gallery, our original venue, backed out on us at the last minute, so unfortunatly we will not be able to bring you a lazer fireworks display as planned, but there will be good fellowship with many expat Americans, and lots of good food and drink to enjoy this special day together! It goes without saying that bringing your own fireworks or BBQ's is strictly prohibited by parks rules, as are glass bottles. Park rangers will be in effect on the day.

Finding us in the park: Walk south towards the roundabout with your back to Chelsea Bridge, across from the Shell Gas Station (petrol garage) enter the park to the right (west) at Rosary Gate, walk strait thought the lovely rose garden and a slight right at the lake and you are exactly at La Gondola Cafe!

Hiya, I am a bit new to this forum. Is the July 1st meeting cancelled? I cannot seem to locate it on the calendar.

Happy bout the barbeque. Not sure that I needed an email every day for the last few days about it though - one is enough! :)

Does fully booked mean the venue is paid for? Or that guests can't come. Is anyone taking volleyball stuff, I am keen for a game.

I'm confused by this change. Does that mean that it's no longer a picnicing type event with games? Did everything except for the food get cancelled?

I'm confused about the change too -- I guess we'll still be picnic-ing in the park on Saturday regardless, if anyone else is going to be there too. (Not sure about the 'heat-wave' though).

To clear the confusion: Pretty much everything is still on except for the fireworks and large public congregation outside of the cafe area. This event is limited to La Gondola Cafe and only for those that have already RSVP'd. Individuals can bring their own picnic foods and enjoy them separate to this event in accordance with parks rules, as on any day of the week, but not at La Gondola.
Sorry~ The event is a victim of it's own success! So numbers must be limited.

So...how many people are going to go and picnic? I wanted to play frisbee and chill out and picnic with people... Is anyone still up for that?

Our original venue, The Pump House, got greedy and decided to run their own event. Next year I'm getting it all in writing! : )
