U.S. Election Night Party London! Carling Academy Islington

This location is shown only to members

NO NEED TO RSVP: JUST COME DOWN 9PM TILL 6AM!!!
IMPORTANT NOTICE: due to exceptionaly high demand (over 2,000 booked so far!) we have booked The Islington Academy to show The Elections. The Light will still be available and showing the election til 3 am and is free, but only has a capacity for 350 people and will be vastly packed. Your chances of getting in are slim.

The Islington Academy will be open til 6am and has a minor cover charge of £5.00. I urge everyone to go to the Islington Academy as The Light has been hugly publiised in print and other media and will have a packed capacity crowd.

So one venue will be an intimate election party of 350-500 fellow Americans, the other is going to be massive! : )

See you tonight! It is not to be missed!

Obama v McCain; This is the big one! And I'm sure you want to be with as many fellow expats as possible as we see in the next United States President. We will be meeting in a very large Central London location to watch the results come in all night projected on the big screen.

The expat Americans group will be hosting this special event, The entire venue is ours and we expect to more than fill it!. We have a special late license for alcohol and there is room for hundreds! Spread the word far and wide.

The BBC did an hour long broadcast from one of our meetups two months ago, so expect a lot of media.

I would really like to attend this, but it sounds like it won't get started till really late - and I have to worry about last trains home. :-((

Does anyone know when the pub closes (and the transit options back to Richmond after the tube closes?)

Even though I am not an American, I am looking forward to the event so that I can watch the election results with Americans, rather than on my own as I would otherwise have done!

Will it be the BBC coverage? - as they have a un-biased approach and a nice map updating each state..

I'm a Brit but I'll be staying up to see the result, and want to share the vibe.

I am an American, studying in London. Born and raised in LA. I would like to be around my fellow Americans on this historical day.

How late will things be going? No substantive information about results will be available in this time zone until the wee hours of the morning - after the Tube closes. How long do you have the room for? (As for non-Ams wanting to attend, I'm all for it! Part of the reason to attend this is to get the chance to observe my country's elections whlie surrounded by interested foreign nationals...) My Info: Californian, voted absentee before I arrived here for a brief British Isles vacation.

If not I just may have to make the 3 hour drive in. Not complaining, 3 hours is not much for this yank! Very worth it considering this is a historical event. :)

So proud and relieved! A large, friendly crowd at Islington Academy. For a £5 cover I would have liked more seating and a better selection of drink, but I suppose we should be thankful for having such a large venue available on short notice. I thought the BBC tracked the Presidential returns quite well.

Sorry I missed this event. As I have moved house and don?t have the Internet as yet I didn?t know about this last minute change and I went to the Light which was packed up but I couldn't find the American expat group and wondered what had happened. Now I see what happened. Anyway I am glad that Obama won and that we can take our dreams back!
Best wishes to all the American expat group.

I saw loads of people taking pictures and a few walking around with video cameras - any idea where these pictures/videos may be online? Thanks for a great evening - was absolutely fantastic.

"The biggest party by far was thrown by the Expat American Meetup group. After running out of space at a 350-capacity bar in Shoreditch, the organiser, Connecticut-born Anthony Timmons, hastily arranged for 2,000 bipartisan revellers to party at Islington's Carling Academy concert hall. "We are the unwashed masses," he chuckled, amid the big screens and burgers. "I'm for Obama."
