Wow, This is so great!

I'm going to have to look into this further!

"I'm for the common man. I'm not so certain the common man even sees how poorly he has been treated"

I can attest to this being the current state of mind of the working class in America. Definitely.

St Mungo's Woolly Hat Day - Friday 22 October
http://www.mungos.org...

Join our first ever Woolly Hat Day and raise money to help homeless people change their lives for good.
Top comedian and actor Ed Byrne has his hat on for homeless people and is supporting Woolly Hat Day:

"Use your head and put a hat on to show your support for the groundbreaking work that St Mungo's does for our homeless population".
On Sunday 10 October, World Homeless Day and also World Mental Health Day, 25 St Mungo's supporters and staff will be pounding the pathways of Hyde Park to raise money for homeless men and women at the annual Royal Parks Half Marathon.

This will be the largest team St Mungo's has ever fielded and the runners are hoping to raise a combined total of over £10,000 for the charity by completing the 13.1 mile course.

According to the latest figures, 3,673 people were seen rough sleeping on the streets of London over the last year.

One runner, Rachael McFarlane (27) from Balham in South London, has thought of a successful new way to fundraise. She says; "I'm asking everyone to vote for me to run either with a perm or without. My friends think I'll look ridiculous with a perm so you can guess how they're all voting! The perm looks like it's set to win. My hairdresser was horrified when I first suggested it but it's for a great cause so I've managed to talk him round. I'm happy to become an 80s throwback for a year or so if it means it'll help St Mungo's!"

Another runner, Joanna Power (26) from Maida Vale said. "I became aware of St Mungo's around Christmas time and have been able to see first hand the amazing work that they do, so much so that it inspired me to run for them, which is not, nor has ever been, a familiar pastime for me!"

Other runners fundraising for St Mungo's include James Ruane from South London, Becky Wright from Chelmsford and a number of staff members from across the charity's projects and offices.

St Mungo's runs over 100 projects across London and the South, providing accommodation and much more for over 1,500 people every night of the year. From emergency support off the streets to semi-independent housing and move on guidance, employment opportunities, training and health support, the charity helps thousands of people to make permanent life changes every year.

More than two thirds, 69%, of St Mungo's clients have a diagnosed or suspected mental health problem, have experienced depression or self-harmed. Just over half, 56%, have slept rough, and 66% also have a physical health condition.

Tanya English, Executive Director of Fundraising and Communications for St Mungo's said; "I'm really pleased to see so many of our supporters taking part in this wonderful event which this year times with both World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day. It's a real opportunity to get people talking, not only about rough sleeping, but also about the challenges homeless people face including mental ill health, lack of basic skills, poor literacy and substance misuse.

"The money raised will go towards our work to help people on their road to recovery and help them get their lives back on track. I'd like to thank all of our runners, wish them the best of luck round the course on Sunday and urge their family and friends to sponsor them as much as they can."

This is one of a number of fundraising events this month. The next is on Friday 22 October when the charity is asking people to 'get their hats on for homeless people' with its first ever Woolly Hat Day.

Banksy creates new Simpsons title sequence
Must Watch: Homeless Shoreditch local, Banksy takes over The Simpsons title sequence‎ - 6 minutes ago

Banksy takes Simpsons into sweatshop: Al Jean, The Simpsons executive producer, joked: "This is what you get when you outsource."

UK graffiti artist Banksy has created a controversial title sequence for long-running US animation The Simpsons.

The titles end with a forboding 20th Century Fox logo, heavily guarded with watchtowers, searchlights and a barbed wire fence. The show has mocked its network in the past. The secretive creation of the storyboard wasn’t without its problems – Banksy claims there were delays, disputes over broadcasting standards and even threats of a walk-out from the animation department.

Banksy, whose identity is unknown, has already paid tribute to The Simpsons in a New Orleans wall mural, featuring a Bart look-a-like writing “I must not copy what I see on the Simpsons” on the now famous classroom blackboard.

MoneyBart airs in the UK on 21 October and features Lisa coaching Bart’s baseball team to a string of surprising wins.

Street artist Banksy has turned director for a controversial new opening sequence of The Simpsons episode, MoneyBart, featuring an Asian sweatshop.

It is the first time a renowned artist has contributed to the storyboard, though famous faces are a regular feature of the long-running cartoon.

The intro sweeps through a graffitied Springfield, its signs and school sprayed with Banksy’s tag. Bart Simpson writes the lines “I must not write all over the walls” on the blackboard and walls of his classroom.

The credits then travel to a run-down factory with dozens of workers animating cells of the family and producing a variety of merchandise in horrific conditions; a tired panda pulls a cart of Bart Simpson dolls which have been stuffed with kitten fur, while a dolphin’s severed head licks boxes shut and a chained and starving unicorn punches holes in DVDs with its horn.

Banksy’s inspiration for the minute-long sweatshop sequence is said to have been reports of The Simpsons characters being animated in Seoul, South Korea.

UK graffiti artist Banksy has created a controversial title sequence for long-running US animation The Simpsons.

The intro, which was shown in the US on Sunday, opens with the street artist's tag scrawled across the town of Springfield.

It closes with a minute-long sequence showing dozens of sweatshop workers in a warehouse painting cartoon cells and making Simpsons merchandise.

The episode, called MoneyBart, will be shown in the UK on 21 October.

It is the first time an artist has been invited to storyboard part of the show.

The extended sequence was apparently inspired by reports the show outsources the bulk of their animation to a company in South Korea.

Delays and disputes

It features Bart Simpson with his face covered as he writes all over his classroom walls.

While in the sweatshop, kittens are thrown into a wood chipper so their fur can be used to stuff Bart Simpson dolls and a chained unicorn is used to punch holes in Simpsons DVDs.

According to the street artist, his storyboard led to delays, disputes over broadcast standards and a threatened walk out by the animation department.

"This is what you get when you outsource," joked The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean.

Other famous Britons to have contributed to the show include Tony Blair, Simon Cowell and Ricky Gervais.

Gervais also wrote Homer Simpson, This Is Your Wife in 2006, and is to make another appearance on the show next year.

HOMELESSNESS: David Harvey on the US Housing Crisis
Americans tend to blame their homelessness on ....themselves! We have a huge educational task here.
http://www.youtube.co...

2 million People in the United States have lost their homes over the period from 2006~2008. At the same time Wall Street gave itself bonuses of over 32 billion dollars of bail out money [Jan 2008~ only less than 2% from the previous year!]

"People who have lost their homes blame their homelessness on ....themselves! There is little capacity to see the systemic nature of what it was that lead to this. We have a huge educational task here.

The mental conceptions of the world that people are using to approaching these questions are absolutely erroneous."

Gov't to try to wind down Fannie May
Email, phone Congress! Tell Obama~ Tell him no dice!

In these times of recession, when it is most needed This Administration wants to shut down Fannie Mae/ Freddie Mac. Unreal!

Private Banks won't loan after we bailed them out, making Fannie Mae/ Freddie Mac a majority new mortgage holder.

Simple solution for the housing market; Call in our loans to big banks, or start loaning. Big banking will understand a mark being called in, after all, they are banks!

Tens of millions have been made homeless in the last three years, the difference being not just the volume of homeless, but direct from home ownership to homelessness as a percentage.

"Renters face as many affordability challenges today as homeowners. Half of all renters spend more than one-third of their income on housing, and 25% spend more than half of their income. For every 100 extremely low-income American families, 32 adequate rental homes are affordable for them, according to the Treasury white paper.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did many things wrong, but they did manage to generate profits by providing financing to support this market of renters."
