Pre-Thanksgiving get together

Very American holidays are the times that we yanks tend to get homesick, and Thanksgiving is one of those especially missing family holidays. So rather than try and get a bunch of strangers together for a Thanksgiving meal, I thought it would be nice to meet a week before. That way if you don't have plans, you can wrangle an invite or plan your own dinner with other members. Dos Amigos is Tex-Mex and part-owned by an American. It's decorated with license plates from California, New Mexico and Texas, so definitely qualifies as an American style venue! The food is good and the Margaritas are really good! Separate from the main restaurant area, they have a cozy bar where we can mingle, with tables where we can eat. It's a nice layout because if you don't feel like eating, you can still hang at the bar and talk to people who are.

It was nice to meet other Americans and share common stories. I didn't really find out if people made any Thanksgiving plans, but that's ok, I think we are all thankful to be in Aotearoa! :)

my husband is also a kiwi though he's also an American so I guess he qualifies either way! non-Americans are absolutely welcome! We are an inclusive group, and besides, isn't Thanksgiving all about the new world? ;-)

@Barbara: Yes, I will be there and I am not a US ex-pat!! Born in Brazil, living in NZ for 11 years, but going back to the US next year where I lived for 6 years... Hope this helps you to bring him along...

Planning to come. My kiwi partner said he would join me, but wanted me to make sure he won't be the only non-American in the group lol Anyone else coming who isn't a US expat?
