Dear Evan,

That's great - I'm a new-ish member and didn't know about Mustang Saloon & Grill!  We'll definitely have to check it out.  We do have a 3 year old so it would have to be popping over for lunch during the work day, or getting a babysitter for the evening.

I love all these great ideas!

Does everyone forget that the Mustang Saloon and Grill in Newmarket has been the de-facto American bar for 4 years? It has hosted the Obama election celebrations, thanksgiving dinner with deep fried Turkey and all the trimmings...for four years...SuperBowl parties....for four years. nachos, burgers etc...
For four years this bar has gone above and beyond to host Americans and Canadians, and yet is always forgotten. It's a shame. Hell...they even have their own baseball team that plays in the local league. They play American football live on all 6 of their screens, baseball when in season...even the soccer league when it's on.
When the local tv stations do anything involving the Americas and they want to do a report, they head there.
Maybe it's time we all re-visit there and throw a little support to a bar that has supported our community for so long.

Sals pizza (on k rd and commerce st in the CBD) have amazing NY style pizza. It's like being back home! Also there's Epolitos in One Tree Hill (rawhiti rd) which does NY style pizza as well.

One thing I'd love is for people to share where they can find American products and American-type experiences.  For example, there's Martha's Backyard in Mt Wellington - amazing selection of goods from the US.  We went to Lone Star the other night in New Lynn, and it felt exactly like an American restaurant.  Does anyone have any others to share?

Thanks!

My Fellow Americans -

No, wait, hold that, back up. Wrong tone. I'm not a Kennedy, don't have that Boston brogue, okay, yes, I am a Democrat.

And as you can probably tell, a bit cheeky. So I'll just say, hello friends, and friends to be. I have just taken over as organizer of the Americans Abroad group. I have made a few changes to the look of the site,I even changed the name of the group. And I hope there will be more changes to come. Regular meetups would be a good start so we can begin to build a community. But I'll need your help. I'm going to steal an idea from the absolutely brilliant organizer of another meetup group and use all of you to help me out. It's a big job and no one can do it alone.

What I most need help with is ideas. Let us all know what you would like to do, post it on the site as an idea so members can say if they like it or not. And members - you've got to get involved to keep this thing going. If you see an idea you like, click that "like" button! Soon as there are enough members interested, I'll get it organized! And if you are willing to host an event, let me know that too.

Now go have a look at that new page, and check out the upcoming meetup. I hope you can make it, it should be a great time!

See you soon!
Susan
