Hokkaido Food Fair @ Mitsuwa Marketplace

  • September 30, 2012 · 1:00 PM

Would anyone be interested in making a trip to Mitsuwa for the Hokkaido Food Fair?

Hokkaido is well-known for their delicious food and since some of their most famous companies are visiting the States, I thought it'd be a great idea to have some for lunch :) Afterwards, we can look around and purchase some Japanese dessert, omiyagi (souvenirs), groceries, etc! I am especially looking forward to the crab bento boxes and the freeze-dried strawberries covered in white chocolate<3 We can even go for karaoke/dinner in NYC if enough people are interested!

Of course, we will be speaking entirely in Japanese (though if you have any questions, I can explain in either language). All levels are welcome and I would be delighted to help anyone with the language :) So definitely bring a note pad to jot down new vocabulary and phrases!!

If anyone wants to meet up at Port Authority to take the shuttle bus together, I'd be glad to meet with them at the station!

It was an amazing Event! There was so much real northern Japanese food and it felt like we were deep inside Hokkaido. And some of the tastes were just outrageous! :)

Might be a bit late due to bus and subway delays ><

We'll be meeting at Port Authority at 12pm! Isabelle (and possibly Nori + Saori) will meet us at Mitsuwa itself :)

I apologize for the mistake! It is at 11am (though we can go earlier or later upon request) and we can get there from port authority as Linda mentioned :)For those traveling from NYC, we can meet in front of the station on eighth ave.The shuttle bus is three dollars one way (you pay the bus driver directly) and it takes around thirty minutes to get to Mitsuwa. It tends to be crowded on weekends ESP during festivals and shuttle buses are rather small, so let's meet up one hour beforehand to line up?

What time do you think is good? I put 11am just for the heck of it, but we can change it. Nori and his wife are coming later on if they can make it D:

Actually, making it a little later would be great! We are coming from Brooklyn (and I am also going to Linda's event the night before) and it would be much easier if we were meeting up at 1:00 PM instead.

FYI - I am driving to Mitsuwa and then if we do Karaoke, I can drive 4 people back into Manhattan for that. If not I go back through the Bronx to Westchester...Another issue is I might invite super gaijins (my term for non japanese speakers) so im gonna have to talk to some people in japanese and some in english. if i mess up just remind me.

Super Gaijins?! Okay, that has to be the best term I have heard this year! :) I am bringing my boyfriend and he is a super gaijin as well, so don't sweat it.

Here is a link to the bus I had heard about. It leaves from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. http://www.mitsuwa.com/tenpo/newj/access/eshuttle.html

yeah, it's in NJ but it doesn't seem untouchable by public transit. did you mean to say 11am?

Sounds delicious. Wish I could go but my schedule is already full that day. I think Mitsuwa runs a shuttle bus from somewhere in the city. Might be convenient for some?
