Scala Hack Night

Hello everybody!

Let's do a hack meet-up again. Let's suggest projects and sign-up with a project in advance.

Please suggest projects and sign-up through the comments. I will update the list below.

Planning

• 19:00 Thai food

• 19:30 Group

• 19:45 Start hacking

Here follow the projects/topics:

• “"oorlog", multiplayer wargame engine -- hooking up akka persistence with Cassandra” (Eric)

• Play 2 + BigPipe, maybe some React too (https://typesafe.com/activator/template/play-bigpipe-with-rxjava-hystrix) (Joost)

Hey! They published the Scala Days 2014 videos. And they seem to be accessible without paying after all!

    Enjoy!

    too many project ideas:
    - Create Aggregation / Collection DSL for MongoDB
    - Visualize akka traces taken with Kamon
    - Create spray app that supports websockets (there was a chat idea already, maybe can be combined)

    Currently favoring spray websockets.

I'd be really interested in the Spray websockets stuff. I've been following this thread https://github.com/spr... in which also Atmosphere integration is discussed. If this would be possible I wouldn't need Node.js + socket.io

There is a specific spray web sockets implementation available. If I remember it correctly, he was looking for some support

The chat API based on a spray web socket server sounds quite nice !

Bummer. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it tonight after all due to illness. If anyone still wants to hack on the "scalable app" project (formerly known as "oorlog"), that is still an option. The repository can be forked and the README file should be enough to get started. I will try to be available for questions during the meetup via bitbucket messaging or through meetup. As a reminder the repository is at https://bitbucket.org/ezoerner/s...

If not, then perhaps next time.

I'm planning to work on a chat API using a hybrid stack of Node.js and Scala. Main focus for the night will be to make users discoverable using Play and Elasticsearch

I'd like to modify the summary of the "oorlog" project: It is *destined* to become a multiplayer wargame engine, but currently it is more of a chatroom application and a framework for building a scalable application. Includes both a ScalaFX client and an Akka server and uses Akka I/O and reactive Mongo BSON for message serialization between client and server. The task at hand is to persist the chat history first using default Akka Persistence and then if or when there is time, Cassandra.

The project as a scalable application framework has been open sourced under the Apache license and published at https://bitbucket.org/ezoerner/s...
