Sona & John are submitting in April!
(Sona & John- if this changes, please let me know!)
The maximum size should be 7,500 words or 2-3 chapters. ALL GENRES/STYLES/FORMATS welcome!
If the chapters come from a larger body of work, please give us a brief synopsis (2 paragraphs maximum) giving us any essential background info that we will need to know for these chapters.
Please send them to me by 31 March so that I have time to send them to everyone who RSVPs.
If you are new to the group and are joining this meetup, please email me your address at [masked] so that I can send you the work we are critiquing!
During the meetup, everyone attending will have a chance to critique the work in question. Depending on how many people RSVP, we will work one by one or perhaps try out Nico's suggestion of having 2 main commenters and then opening the floor to others for added feedback. Let's see how it goes!
The critique should be honest but polite, and the writer should listen without feeling the need to defend themselves or their work (although perhaps an occasional explanation can be expected).
What could be better
Questions about the text (Answering from the author is optional!)
Friendly points to remember:
It is sometimes hard to be on the receiving end of feedback, but writers should not feel the need to "defend" their work in our group. You can decide what you take as helpful criticism and what you leave behind, and hopefully do so without feeling like you need to defend your work or your decisions. After all, these are just opinions that we are sharing!
Everyone will have the right to speak when it is their turn. Hopefully everyone speaking will make the feedback constructive and helpful and specific, but in the end it is their few minutes to speak and they can say what they like. This is important, because the diverse range of opinions and experience and genres in the group always breeds interesting views and conversations. This was one of the primary aims in beginning a group like this, and also one of the most rewarding aspects.
It is really nice for the writer (and the group) if you can have the stories printed out and marked with your feedback so that the writer can collect these and refer back to them if need be.
At the moment we are limited in space for 15 people per meetup. Please only RSVP if you can make it. If you RSVP and your plans change, please change your RSVP so that others know if they can make it.
Thank you all for keeping these points in mind!
Feel free to get in touch with any questions!
