5 steps to clean Android code
Most Android apps follow the same pattern: a RESTful third-party service provides information represented as JSON and XML, and your task is to present that information and to communicate user actions to the service. Designing and understanding the way data flows into your architecture usually result in a much cleaner codebase. Here you'll be presented 5 useful insights that will help you write code that is a pleasure to read, easy to test and fun to change.
Frankie Sardo works as a Software Craftsman at Novoda. TDD addicted and Clean Code enthusiast, is an active member of the London Software Craftsmanship Community.
In his free time he's authoring the Growing Android Applications Guided By Tests project (novoda.com/blog/blog/categories/gaagbt)(github.com/frankiesardo/growing-android-applications-guided-by-tests) where he tries out new ideas on making Android architectures clean and testable.
He recently released Icepick (github.com/frankiesardo/icepick) a small Android library that uses code generation to simplify save and restore instance state.
A million times Pattrn
Pattrn is an unique wallpaper app for Android that gives you access to the huge collection of patterns created by the COLOURlovers community. It has been featured by Google on multiple occasions: on Google's Android Design in Action show, and on Google Play's Staff Picks, Pure Android, and Beautiful Design collections. In just over a year, it has been downloaded more than a million times with an active install base of ~300k users. In this talk, you'll learn a bit about the story behind Pattrn as well as some useful Android design and development tips that might help your app stand out.
