Hello all,

In the build up to Droidcon, Mark Murphy founder of CommonsWare, will give a free talk on strategic Android development at Skills Matter on October 22nd. Hope to see many of you there! Doors at 6PM - Skills Matter

Here's Mark's synopsis,

While Android tablets are around 10% of the Android device market, they still represent a compelling niche for many app developers. One of the touted techniques for targeting phones and tablets is the so-called "master-detail pattern" that shows a list of things, then details of a selected thing. However, there are many ways of implementing the master-detail pattern, hitting on other design "hot buttons" (do we offer horizontal swiping between details? How about multiple selections and a contextual action bar?).

In this talk, we will review the ways that you can make the most of master-detail with the least amount of headaches. You should have basic knowledge of Android application development.

A solid and engaging presentation as always, with a clear overview of the master-detail pattern for beginners. I was expecting the talk to include more interesting case studies (than the canonical example) where the pattern is used or could be applied; for example, given a tree structure (where each node's details section is a list of other nodes) could the master-detail pattern (or a variation) be applied there? All in all, a good warm-up for DroidCon!
