The New York Android Developers Meetup March Event

  • Mar 3, 2010 · 7:00 PM
  • Medialets HQ

Hey Everyone! We're looking to kick things off consistently in 2010 (albeit a little late) so we're going to start posting two events in a row. Events will be 5-6 weeks between and we're always looking for anyone that is interesting in speaking/presenting or would like to bring up a topic of discussion. Now to the March Meetup!
Speakers: Chris White & Mike Novak from Medialets This meetup will provide developers with working knowledge on supporting multiple devices running different versions of Android. Devices not only run different version of the Android software they also have different screen resolutions. We will discuss how to leverage Android 2.0 API features while still supporting older versions of Android in the same application binary. Finally, we'll take a look at why it is important to design your user interface using pixel independent concepts and provide examples.
Speakers: Heliodor Jalba and Josh Schiffman from Xtify Xtify recently made available its Geo-Messaging Platform, an online software tool to enable geo-targeted push messaging directly to Android devices. For example, if you are working on a local search and discovery application or, a travel and restaurant guide, you could send users interesting facts and recommendations related to their actual location. The Xtify Geo-Messaging Platform includes a web-based Campaign Manager for creating messaging campaigns and an SDK that extracts location as well as opens a messaging channel back to the device to allow for real-time notifications. Their website is Medialets will be hosting this event at our new office at 450 w 15th st, suite 200. If you have any questions, please let us know!

Thanks for sending that out, Mike. I'm really bummed I couldn't make it last night.
