The Crash Reel - award winning film about TBI + discussion

  • Apr 22, 2014 · 6:30 PM

Directed by twice Oscar®-nominated filmmaker and NYU Alumna Lucy Walker, "The Crash Reel" is the dramatic story of one unforgettable athlete, Kevin Pearce; one eye-popping sport, snowboarding; and one explosive issue, Traumatic Brain Injury.

Location: GCASL (238 Thompson St. btw. W3rd & Wash Sq. S) Lecture Hall 95

This screening is part of a REACT to FILM National Moment where college campuses across the country will host events to generate dialogue and spark civic action.

This eye-popping film seamlessly combines twenty years of stunning action footage with new specially-shot verité footage and interviews as it follows U.S. champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce and exposes the irresistible but potentially fatal appeal of extreme sports.

An escalating rivalry between Kevin and his nemesis Shaun White in the run-up to the 2010 Olympics leaves Shaun on top of the Olympic podium and Kevin in a coma following a training accident in Park City, Utah.

A very special guest panel will be discussing TBI following the screening.

Panelists include:

Please note: there is very limited space for wheelchairs (2 or 3) and a step or two to get to the top rows of the auditorium. (I know - shocking for a "public" / university building)

But there is an elevator up to the lecture hall (not sure what floor)

RSVP to [masked] required to get past NYU security desk (or NYU ID)
