Animal Advocates of Arizona

is pleased to present the

   2011 C.A.R.E. CONFERENCE

Inside the World of Animal Hoarding

Join us at Noah's of Chandler as we explore the ever emerging and oftentimes misunderstood world of people and the animals they hoard.

  • Gain a deeper knowledge base about this growing and tragic phenomenon.
  • Get answers directly from law enforcement and prosecution sectors.
  • Delve into the workings of investigations & subsequent rescue of animal victims reported as being severely neglected, malnourished & in desperate need of vet care.
  • Receive resources available to the community on what we can do to help.

We will hear from a very distinguished panel of speakers, including Kari Nienstedt, the Arizona State Director of The Humane Society of the United States, who played an integral part in the Arizona effort where 200+ animals were taken into rescue.

"Compulsive hoarding is now recognized as a seriously debilitating condition. Leading psychologists are now calling for compulsive hoarding to be recognized as a new psychological disorder because this will lead to better recognition, research and treatment," says Dr. Gary Patronek, founder of Hoarding of Animals Research Consortium. "We already recognize many similarities with the compulsive hoarding of objects, but there's one incredibly important difference: animal hoarding involves other living beings—namely animals—that suffer the dire consequences."

    Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!
This conference offered such a professional way to educate others about the serious issue of animal hoarding and how to go about the proper channels to report in order to save the lives of animals and hopefully get behavioral health treatment for the hoarder. What an excellent group of professionals chosen for the panel. I see that a compassionate and knowledgeable community exists here and can come together regularly to discuss animal hoarding issues and implement ways to best serve the animals as well as the people doing the hoarding. Thank you for working so hard to make this conference happen. Your dedication and compassion toward animals is very evident. This group doesn't just talk the talk...they walk the walk! Congratulations Animal Advocates of Arizona organizers, presentors, and volunteers on a very successful first C.A.R.E. Conference! It was wonderful to see such a large group of people so interested in helping sentient beings.

Great Conference! I thought the conference shared valuable information and insight on animal hoarding that I have never heard of or thought about before. This conference shined a different light on animal hoarding and put a positive spin on how we can help rather than shunning the hoarders. The panel was a group of amazing women that make a HUGE difference in the animal community, they ROCK! :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
