EVENING Thurs. June 28th: Ringling Circus leafleting

Join us at US Airways Center on Thursday, June 28th from 5:45pm to 7:00pm to distribute leaflets to Ringling circus patrons with encouragement to consider patronizing fun, humane family entertainment, rather than the abusive animal circus.  A very short time to make a direct, positive difference for these animals!

View the Meetup Event Calendar and RSVP to any leafletings you are able to attend.  We hope you can help, any time that you can commit to is greatly appreciated.

Allow extra time for parking and for short walk to the arena. Leaflets and ice cold water will be provided! Driving Directions: Here

UPDATE: Meters are in operation only Mon-Fri from 8am to 5pm. No need to pay if parking in a metered spot outside of these times. City of Phoenix parking meter information:  http://phoenix.gov/streets/parkingmeters/index.html

BACKGROUND:

- Baby elephants are captured "rodeo style", roped around all four legs, tethered neck-to-neck to an "anchor elephant" and dragged from their mothers. Once pulled from their mothers, baby elephants are restrained by four legs on a concrete floor in a barn for up to 23 hours a day to break their spirits and are never allowed to play outdoors.

- The babies often incur painful lesions from straining against ropes tightly cinched around their legs. It may take up to six months before they give up and stop struggling.

- Ringling trainers cruelly use ropes, chains, sharp hooks, electric shock devices, denial of maternal protection and corporal punishment in order to force baby elephants to learn unnatural tricks.

- Speaking of Ringling's training methods, former Ringling trainer Sam Haddock stated, "During these training sessions, the baby is screaming and struggling the whole time."

- Gary Jacobson, general manager for Ringling Bros. Center for Elephant Conservation, testified in court that electric prods are used only for self-defense and protection but was photographed using this painful device on a defenseless and tied up baby elephant during training. He has also been photographed applying electric shock to the heads of baby elephants.

- "The bullhook is designed for one purpose, and one purpose only: to inflict pain and punishment. I should know. I used to make them. I built them to where you can't break them, no matter how hard you hit the elephant."-Sam Haddock, former Ringling trainer.

Hi Alyssa! We will be handing out information that discusses the animal abuse and cruelty routinely done by Ringling. We will be standing on public sidewalk and simply offering the information to those who are walking in. We're glad you'll be joining us! Please let me know if you have any other questions :).
