Hillsborough County Animal Services euthanizes upwards of 90 percent of its animals;currently, over 24,638 dogs and cats are euthanized in Hillsborough County alone each year due to overpopulation.
These are one of the many reasons why we want to start a "No-Kill for space" animal shelter in Tampa because the problem of animal abuse and neglect has grown far beyond the resources of the existing animal welfare agencies. We appreciate and applaud all the work done by some of the local shelters, but they cannot possibly bear with all the burden, responsibility and overwhelming issues alone. Our mission is to free all animals from suffering, abuse, neglect, cruelty, and exploitation. We believe each animal's life is meaningful and each has a right to life, therefore we do not accept euthanasia as a means of population control for animals. We will not discriminate against breed, health, color, temperament, or age. We will take in stray animals, owner-surrendered animals, and abused, abandoned, sick, mistreated, injured, unwanted animals that need a place to stay and we will rehabilitate them until we find them a loving home. The shelter will take in dogs, cats, ferrets, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small domesticated animals and will ensure that no animal has to suffer needlessly on the streets.
Together we can make a difference. There's strength in numbers! Together, we can all do more to help the thousands of animal companions that are orphaned and abandoned every year in Hillsborough County; much more than any of us can do alone. Please join us in our mission to make a difference, one life at a time. Remember, you may only be one person, but even one person can make the difference in these animals’ lives! With your help, we can help to minimize the unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable animals in our local shelters.
