New Event: Movie night at the Brunswick Theatre!!

Announcing a new event for The Toronto Animal Rights Meetup Group!

What: Movie night at the Brunswick Theatre!!

When: Friday, August 10, 8:45 PM

Event fee: CAD7.00 per person

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Event Description:

WOW!! Can you believe it's already been a month since we last got together?!? We're DEFINITELY overdue so........

Come on out this Friday to see the film OUTFOXED: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism (http://www.outfoxed.org/) at the Brunswick Theatre which is located at 296 Brunswick Avenue, 2nd Floor (just south of Bloor). The film starts at 9pm but I think it would be best to meet in front of the theatre between 8:30 and 8:45 so we can go in as a group and hopefully all get seats together.

Here's a blurb from the website about the movie:

"Outfoxed" examines how media empires, led by Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, have been running a "race to the bottom" in television news. This film provides an in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public's right to know.

The film explores Murdoch's burgeoning kingdom and the impact on society when a broad swath of media is controlled by one person.

Media experts, including Jeff Cohen (FAIR) Bob McChesney (Free Press), Chellie Pingree (Common Cause), Jeff Chester (Center for Digital Democracy) and David Brock (Media Matters) provide context and guidance for the story of Fox News and its effect on society.

This documentary also reveals the secrets of Former Fox news producers, reporters, bookers and writers who expose what it's like to work for Fox News. These former Fox employees talk about how they were forced to push a "right-wing" point of view or risk their jobs. Some have even chosen to remain anonymous in order to protect their current livelihoods. As one employee said "There's no sense of integrity as far as having a line that can't be crossed."

The normal ticket price for films at the theatre is $10 but apparently there's a special rate of $7 for this Friday's screening. After the film, for whoever is up for it, we could all go hang out at one of the local watering holes like Green Room, etc...

If you'll be coming out by TTC you can either get off at Spadina station and walk west along Bloor or get off at Bathurst and walk east.

By car you'll be looking for on-street parking along Bloor or one of the side streets but there's also a "Green P" parking lot on Lippincott St just south of Bloor and one block west of Bathurst.

Any questions feel free to post/email them!

Hope to see you all there!!

YAY!!!!

Paul :o)
