New Meeting: Cattle Auction Observation

From: JD
Sent on: Friday, April 18, 2008 12:26 PM
Announcing a new meeting for United Animal Advocates of LA!

What: Cattle Auction Observation

When: Wednesday, April 23, 1:00 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Why: Gain an in-depth understanding of modern agriculture's people and practices. Gain a better understanding of living conditions for farmed animals.

Meeting Description: Hello friends and animal heroes,

Watching documentaries such as Earthlings and Meet Your Meat, which graphically expose the abuse involved in factory farming, is what made many of us join the vegan/vegetarian boycott against cruelty or pick up bumperstickers, pens and clipboards and become animal advocates in the first place.

For those of us wishing to bring our understanding of modern agriculture and factory farming practices to a new level, we are planning an observational and investigative trip wherein a pair of Animal Rights Advocates will attend a livestock auction. At these auctions cattle and other animals, many of them factory farmed, are sold to the highest bidder. The auctions are an excellent place to investigate the well-being and medical conditions of factory farmed animals, and also provide an opportunity to investigate common animal handling methods and gain an understanding of the people and culture that perpetuates factory farming.

At the auction we will not attempt to interfere, draw attention to ourselves, or be noted in any way as being out of the ordinary. We will be observers only, blending in with the crowd in order to gain firsthand knowledge. As animal advocates, it makes a powerful impression when one has seen farmed animal abuse in person and can give eyewitness accounts to the public. Seeing animals up close and in person will redouble your desire to stop factory farming.

How to Dress:

For males, it is recommended to wear blue jeans, a tee shirt, a plaid shirt, or western-style button-down shirt. Denim shirts tucked into jeans and large metal belt buckles are also very common. A cowboy hat or baseball cap, and boots are recommended accessories.

For females, it is recommended to wear blue jeans, a comfortable shirt or sweater, or a western-style shirt. Comfortable closed-toe shoes such as jogging shoes or cowgirl boots and sunglasses are also recommended.

In order to blend in, it will be important for all attendees to appear relaxed and not show any strong reactions to the ways in which animals are treated. If you're interested in going, we can carpool or meet separately at the auction in Chino. Please RSVP if you are interested in going, and contact me for more information!

Have a wonderful day!
