Hi folks,

This is so easy to do to help the kangaroos. It only takes 1-2 minutes and you don't even have to speak to anyone...

Kangaroos Need Your Help Now
Urgent: "Take Action" and Urge Governor to Veto SB 880

California law has prohibited the sale of products made from kangaroo skin since 1970 to protect them in their native habitat of Australia, the only place on Earth that they exist in the wild. Yet a small handful of state lawmakers seem determined to reopen the market so that a few businesses can profit from kangaroo killing. SB 880, a bill that would turn back the clock on California's progressive law to protect endangered kangaroos now sits on the Governor's desk awaiting signature.
There are numerous species of kangaroos in Australia, some of which are at risk of extinction. Hunters shoot kangaroos at night, and in the dark it is virtually impossible to tell which species they are killing. For example, in Queensland, it is illegal to kill the endangered Western Grey Kangaroo, a species that can easily be mistaken for the Eastern Grey, which is considered fair game. If SB 880 passes and the ban is overturned, there is little doubt that California will be contributing to the extinction of endangered species.

According to official Australian government statistics, kangaroo populations are at their lowest point in over a decade, and well below half of what they were in 2001. Millions of kangaroos are already slaughtered in Australia for fashion and sporting goods sold in countries around the world, and already the industry's demands exceed the number of kangaroos remaining. Resuming imports to California after more than 35 years would only exacerbate this manmade crisis.

The methods used to kill kangaroos are also exceptionally cruel and inhumane. For example, if a mother kangaroo is shot with a baby in her pouch, the Australian Code of Practice stipulates that hunters should kill the child by smashing his or her head with a club or gun handle. Such incredible brutality simply cannot be justified for the sake of profit or fashion.

Please " Take Action" to urge the Governor to veto SB 880. Also follow up with a phone call. You don't have to speak with anyone. You can be heard by simply calling (916)[masked] and pressing the keys 1, 2, 1, 2. Please tell friends and family to take action on this important issue as well.
