Announcing a new event for United Animal Advocates of LA!

What: Vegan Potluck Picnic in the Park Sat. Oct. 13th

When: Saturday, October 13, 3:00 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Event Description: Hey everyone,

We are now officially United Animal Advocates of LA (UAALA for the acronym-lovers)! Hope everyone likes our new name. :) Business cards will be arriving shortly to pass out to interested people in the area. These cards should be available by the time of the picnic Sat. Oct. 13th.

UAALA's first-ever potluck picnic will be this Saturday, Oct. 13th, 3-6 pm at Reed Park, which is between the intersection of 7th Street & Wilshire and Lincoln & California Ave. in Santa Monica, located just 4 blocks north of Wilshire and the 3rd Street Promenade. Let's meet at the northeast side of the park, which is actually near the corner of Lincoln and California Avenue (diagonally across from 7th and Wilshire). For a map of Reed Park, http://maps.yahoo.com...

Please bring a vegan dish to share, and preferably non-disposable plates and utensils if feasible. It'd be nice to be somewhat eco-friendly and minimize the amount of trash we create, so if everyone at least brings one set of eating utensils, we should be able to accomplish that goal. In order to have a good variety of foods, please indicate in the comment section when you RSVP what you plan to bring so we don't double-up on vegan cupcakes or salsa and chips. If you're in the mood and have the time to make something really creative, great, but don't feel obliged to; it can be as simple as cut fruits and veggies. Also, if you have to come late or leave early, that's fine; just indicate that on your RSVP comment along with what you're bringing!

If you have trouble finding us, you can try me on my cell at (310)614-3530.

Later that night, from 8-10 pm we'll have the outreach on the promenade just a few blocks away (which I will send a separate email announcement out for). For those wondering why the two events are spaced apart, it's because an outdoor picnic is best had during daylight hours, and nowadays it gets dark by about 7 pm. And for the outreach, for the video projection to display clearly, we need it to be dark. If you're planning to attend both the picnic and the outreach, there are plenty of things to do in the area during the 2 hour "break." The Third Street Promenade has lots of shops, movie theaters, book stores, etc. and of course the Promenade is an ideal venue for getting signatures from the public for the ballot initiative to ban gestation crates, veal crates, and battery cages in the state of California. I'll be sending out an email about this important campaign in a separate email, and should have petitions ready for anyone interested in gathering signatures by Saturday as well. (650,000 are needed by Feb. 28, 2008 in order for the initiative to get on the November 2008 ballot! See www.humanecalifornia.org for further details on the campaign.)

Please remember to RVSP!! THANKS!!

See you Saturday!

:) Armaiti

I bet this was a lot of fun! Are there any plans for another such picnic meet-and-greet?
