RE: [animalrights-190] Deer BowHunting in Avon, Ohio to reduce the deer population

Hi Dora,

The Ohio Dept of Natural Resources (ODNR) regulates deer & they refuse to allow the use of birth control, except under very limited circumstances. The excuse they use is it’s a human health concern, because not enough animals have been tortured in lab tests to ensure it’s OK for people to eat meat from deer on birth control. On the other hand, ODNR is  pleased as punch to foist lead bullet fragment riddled deer meat on people who rely on soup kitchens

For info on this situation in Avon Lake, go to http://www.avonlakedeer.com/

Also, in case anyone may be interested, I believe the City of Seven Hills is thinking of allowing bowhunting

What happened with this issue?  It is a horrible thing.  I don't understand why we can't have some sort of birth control packets dropped in heavy deer populated areas.  It is ridiculous in these times that we have to go out and make a sport out of killing defenseless animals because we keep taking over so much of their land.  There should be enough green space in every city for us to co-exist peacefully with all wildlife.  Very sad.

Officials in Avon Lake, Ohio, have reportedly approved the use of bowhunting in an attempt to reduce deer populations. PETA informed officials about the extreme cruelty associated with this method but to no apparent avail. Your voice is needed!

Bowhunting is among the cruelest forms of hunting. Bowhunters often spend hours following bloody tracks before finding wounded deer. Many are not found, and their deaths are slow and painful. It can take weeks for them to succumb to their injuries. Families are then torn apart, and young and weak animals starve or die of dehydration or predation. PETA routinely receives reports of injured deer spotted with arrows protruding from their bodies, and it is not uncommon for us to learn of wounded deer careening wildly onto highways or through residential windows.

Please urge Avon Lake officials to overturn their recent decision and ditch bowhunting—and then forward this e-mail widely! Please share these deer control tips.
