Leafletting with Animal Aid leaflets to raise awareness of "charity" vivisection

On Sunday 5th October Cancer Research UK (CRUK) will be staging a fundraising "Race for Life" event, on Clapham Common.

CRUK fund the most appalling experiments on animals and we will be distributing leaflets to educate members of the public not to support them, nor any other charity that takes part in or funds animal research, and to donate to humane non-animal research instead.

We'll be distributing Animal Aid's excellent "Is your money paying for animal experiments?" leaflets (see http://www.animalaid.org.uk/images/pdf/leaflets/isyourmoneypaying.pdf) and could do with lots of help to give them out.

So please come along to Clapham Common at 10.00am on Sunday 5th October to lend a hand. It's hard to estimate how long the leafletting will go on for, but it's unlikely to be for more than a couple of hours.

Leaflets will be provided and we're asking people not to bring banners or placards, as this is a public education exercise rather than a protest.

We'll be wearing high-vis vests/jackets, which is a good tactic to get people to take leaflets, as it makes you look "official", so if anyone going has one they can wear, then please do so, although that's not essential.

More info on Animal Aid's "Victims of Charity" campaign can be found at http://www.victimsofcharity.org/

I have been inspired to do this by the efforts of Worcestershire Vegans & Veggies who did the same thing at their local Race for Life.

It was tough with such low numbers, it would have been good to have more support, maybe next time......either way I think we done a great job given the event.
I was shocked and upset at some of the larger groups' attitude, one day they will see sense but unfortunately probably when it is too late for them and only when they have a cancer/disease/serious illness (I'm not wishing this on anyone no matter who or what-its just a sad fact) and they find that CRUK are still 'apparently' looking for a cure.
I just feel sorry for my daughter, she has to grow up in a world with people who are so misguided and stubborn! poor thing. :(

Hi, I'm Betsy, I'm new to this group (and meetup in general), but I'm definitely coming to help leaflet on the 5th. Just to confirm, are we still planning to meet at the bandstand at 10am?

Yes that is right, though knowing me I may end up a little late (I will try not to be!), my number is 07931 156006. Lovely that you are coming!

Thanks Tom and Amrit but what happened to everyone else??? Pls could everyone be mindful that with small leafletting events like this I rely on every single person and anyone not showing who has promised to help is a serious loss as we need to ensure the organiser is never left completely alone..

Hey Leslie, I was thinking of joining them too but to hand out leaflets (I can't remember if they were from Vegan Society, Animal aid or Viva) that had info on cancers ie breast cancer and nutrition. If I got hold of some, would I be able to join you and help with both leaflets?

I really want to help out at Hugletts again.. it is just so hard to find the time to organise something.. waiting for someone else to because I can't take on any more things myself organising!

Same here, can't find the time to put my head down....too much to plan after being ill, having colds is so inconvenient!

Everyone, we could meet at the bandstand in the centre of the common then decide from there which part of the park to leaflet depending on exactly where the run is taking place, does that sound OK?
