FRIEND Animal Sanctuary Volunteer Day 915am Charing Cross BR Station

  • This location is shown only to members

MEET US BY THE TICKET OFFICE AT CHARING CROSS BRITISH RAIL STATION, 915AM.
We will be helping out at a vegan-run sanctuary for rescued farmed animals.

Bring wellies and a snack though a (very tasty) vegan meal is usually provided by the sanctuary. Lifts to and from Paddock Wood Station are available. These visits are always enjoyable and a chance to meet like-minded people and interact with many animals (normally including feeding them).......we usually leave around 6pm.

Can I ask why you were banned Lesley? I have just joined this group so I need to know I am putting my energy into a kind worthy cause?

That is a really lovely idea Akasha, as I'd been upset about the whole FRIEND situation and the way this had been making me feel like I could no longer be a real part of this group the way I had felt before the ban (even though it is not the fault of anyone here that I was banned).
If a helping out day for the bunnies is organised there and it turns out I can't make it I am still more than happy to put the word out elsewhere if you would like me to, do just let me know (eg I could put it on the London Vegan and London Vegetarian groups if needed to depending on the numbers she is happy with having over to help). I mostly know about the vegan-run sanctuaries from a list of about 15 of them on the Shambhus site (including FRIEND and Hugletts) but even if it's not vegan-run so long as it's a welcoming kind of place I would be interested.

I love going to FRIEND and its all about the animals anyway - personal feelings and disputes should never come between us and helping animals.

I agree and would never ask anyone not to go, what I would ask is for ppl who know me to talk to Marion and ask her to unban me as I never wanted my argument with that other person to come between us, it was not my choice

I know I am not allowed to come to FRIEND because of Marion's stupid ban on me which was about something that was none of her business anyway, but was it really necessary to clash with my demo against the deer cull??? You go lots of times to FRIEND already but the deer cull demo needs lots of ppl, we're always short on numbers and it is only once or twice a year I call for London and Surrey AR ppl to stick together for this one to raise public awareness.. please won't you reconsider the date of your FRIEND workday, just this once and encourage support for this very important day of action

ah i've just seen it clashes, there are regular visits to friend so people can still go to the anti deer cull on the 3rd. it seems that people who don't to demos, won't go anyway regardless of whether there is anything else on. when will the next demo be?

Next one should be 2nd February, I think, in Richmond, to coincide with just before the start of the next cull as it does not seem that they are going to stop anytime soon :(
Yes I know some ppl do not seem to like demos! This one in Kingston is not a big one, not like the huge national marches with 300 or more ppl, it's typically about 18-20 ppl from previous efforts, but would like it to be a bit bigger like about 40-50 so we can have enough ppl to engage with more members of the public in the town and be more well noticed, it is all about reminding the public there of what is going on on their doorstep and getting more ppl on board to lobby for change.
