Volunteer work day at Greenwich Rabbit Rescue

Hello,

I'm organising a volunteer day at Greenwich Rabbit Rescue (Facebook).

We will aim to be there by 10 am and help out Val with cleaning the cages, exercising the bunnies and cuddling with them for a bit :)

I am not sure about if we will get fed there but I recommend that we all bring some food with us as she is not vegan and may not have any vegan stuff for us anyway.

I hope to see you all there!

I will be taking a bus from Lewisham to get there. It's between Blackheath and Greenwich. I can meet you at 9:30 at Lewisham station to take the bus together if you like, other than that I will see you there at 10 am! My number is[masked] if you need to contact me.

Hi everyone, sorry to post here but members aren't able to add 'Discussions' on this group. A fellow Volentian, Nicola-Jayne of Godalming in Surrey, desperately needs to find a good home for her 10 month old, lop-eared bunny before the end of the month. She is moving and unfortunately can't take him with her. His name is Peter, he's healthy, fully vaccinated, but has not been neutered. He will come with his hutch, etc. See Volentia's bunny group for a photo and a link to Nicola-Jayne's profile - http://www.volentia.com/group/ilovebunnies

How was it? Are the rabbits in better condition?

I agree that breeding more is wrong while there are so many animals without homes, anyone wanting a pet should be getting a rescue not supporting breeding. I could hardly say anything to Val as I was there with my daughters to help and I knew the score from Akasha already, about her breeding some rabbits as well as rescuing, but like you Imogen I think this place is not the right place for me. It was good as a one-off visit to help out at but not somewhere I would likely go again for a variety of reasons, breeding being one of them, but also the time and distance for travelling for me is difficult. Public transport is slow from my area to that area. I just wish there was somewhere rescuing animals closer to my home I could organise a day helping out at, but I don't really know of anywhere. I am grateful to Akasha for organising and sorry some ppl let you down.

Lovely to see you and family Lesley. By the way, Val showed us the black babes of the rabbit you cleaned, looked ok. One has development problems, 'peanut' she said, and never survive more than a few weeks.

I did some quick maths, say there's 10million pple in London, so perhaps 3million children, and 1 in 100 gets a rabbit each year, that's 30,000. So obv have to be breeders. Def for me the ideal would be it's a dedicated rescue centre, and perfection that breeding not allowed until all homeless rabbits rehomed. But if there are going to have to be breeders, one running a rescue is pretty good. Val said she's done it all by herself apart from some help in the last 3 weeks by another lady.

Is it OK bringing one or both my daughters along, if they decide they want to come and help out too? They both seemed possibly interested when I told them about this. They are 16 and 11.
May not get there quite for 10am as I have looked on Traveline and it is a two hour journey or maybe even a little more, which means one or both daughters might change their minds anyway, but would try to be there before 11am.
Anyway I am almost certainly coming now, and told my younger daughter I would have to ask the rules regarding children.
