Action alert: Cole Bros. Circus

Looking ahead with concern: Cole Bros. Circus

The Cole Bros. Circus will return to South Florida in late fall. We need your help to convince past hosts of the circus to reconsider hosting the circus in 2012. Each of the below venues has hosted the Cole Bros. Circus for the past several years.

Elephants and other animals in the circus commonly suffer from abuse and neglect. The Cole Bros. Circus has a particularly poor reputation. Please visit ARFF's website (here) to learn more about the serious problems that have plagued the circus.

Sample text (it's best to use your own words):

Dear _____:
Please do not host the Cole Bros. Circus again this year. In April 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that the Cole Bros. Circus had agreed to pay $15,000 to settle charges that it violated federal animal welfare laws due to inhumane treatment and dangerous handling of elephants and tigers! This circus has a horrible history.

If you have already contracted to host the circus, please request that Cole Bros. not bring its elephants and tigers when it arrives in town to perform. In May 2012, after concerns were raised about animal welfare, the Cole Bros. Circus agreed to perform at the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, Virginia with only human performers-- an entirely animal-free show.

Thank you!
