Ann Arbor Stitch'nBitch Message Board › Temari Ball Workshop
This message board is read-only.
Ann Arbor, MI
I've offered to do a Temari Ball workshop at knitting group in 2 weeks (Wednesday, January 26th) for anyone who is interested. I'll also post some pictures up here in a bit so you can see what you might get yourself into.
If you are interested, please read through the materials list below and come prepared. If you need help "winding the mari" come this week to Wednesday and I'll get you started.
See you soon!
Temari Balls Materials List
A Mari ball - To Make: Wad up 3 plastic grocery bags and wrap worsted weight yarn around to form a ball. Once the ball is a good size for your hand (or whatever size you'd like) wrap to completely cover the ball with sewing thread (yes, it takes forever, but it's worth it!) Make sure no yarn color is peeking through and the ball is pretty round. Careful of having lots of threads or yarns wound all in the same place as it creates craters in the surface of your ball - smooth and round is what you're going for.
Doesn't matter what color thread you use, but black and white are the best for a basic base color.
3 different colored pins
+ at least 10 more pins all the same color heads
large headed metal embroidery needle
several colors of embroidery floss (or crochet cotton) - PLEASE INCLUDE ONE METALLIC - not 100% needed, but makes a nice effect.
strip of paper about 1/2 inch wide or so (used for marking) I'll try to remember to bring some of these.
In the workshop we'll learn how to divide and mark the mari and learn a simple design to stitch. If you'll be at group this week I can get you started in winding your mari base in preparation for next week. If you think this "bug" is going to bite you, wind more than one right from the beginning - you'll be happy you did!
